I wear gloves when preparing food

I have gotten where I don't like meats to touch my hands. When I make burgers I wear gloves. I keep a box of non latex clear gloves in my kitchen. My hands are clean. I wash them many times a day, so that's not the reason. My daughter said I have OCD because I want to wear gloves when preparing meats. I also wear gloves when making biscuits. I don't like to get the dough on my hands. I just don't like my hands to have a sticky feeling on them. I hope I'm not the only one that feels they have to wear gloves when preparing food. It won't bother me if I am though. .

I don't know if that's OCD or not. I hate to wear gloves, though, and don't even wear them for things like cleaning the oven or working in the garden. A good scrub and some lotion and I'm good to go. One of me sisters in law likes to mix meatloaf with her hands because she likes to "play with her food" as she puts it. Guess it takes all kinds.

My skin is very sensitive, so I could never use oven cleaner without gloves. I mix meatloaf with my hands with gloves on.

I don't use oven cleaner... didn't think to mention that. I use ammonia overnight, then just scrub it. I wouldn't use my bare hands with oven cleaner, either. That stuff is dangerous.

I use to wwear gloves at work preparing food, I have done it at home but it got too expensive. I really don;t cook meat often, but I can see your reasoning. I hate meat, and touching the bones, or fat, etc just turns me off so I think gloves would help with that.

I cook meat almost every day. I made a big meat loaf last night and I froze what wasn't eaten last night which can be eaten another day. I have a roast if beef in the oven now. I wore gloves to prepare it. The gloves aren't expensive here. I get a big box. They last me more than a month.

No, I don't wear gloves when preparing food. However, I also don't eat meat, so I'm not coming into contact with something that has such a high likelihood of contamination, either. I tend to oil my hands (using olive oil) when making things such as biscuits or pizza dough. This decreases the amount of stuff sticking to my hands and makes in easier to work with the dough.

I used to do what you do, but I don't like the feeling of it either so I wear gloves. It works for me, so I don't get that icky feeling. In sure it's a mind thing, but it's just me.

I personally think you got a very good habit of wearing gloves. This is good for both parties, the one who prepare the food and the one who eat it. It is more hygiene too. I think I will do the same in the future when handling raw meat. Thanks for this good idea.

I know. I think it's safer for preparing food, though I wash my hands a lot. My daughter tends to get sick easily, so at least I can say its not me making her sick.

You do fine to wear those gloves so you don't have to wash your hands 20 times a day when you are cooking, but do not use those gloves I just for myself wash my hands, I don't like sticky things on my hands eather like honey or sugary stuff, I can say that it is a good habit that developed cooking it is what you are there is nothing wrong in what you are doing and it is not an illness like your daughter try to make you believe. So good cooking.

I still wash my hands at least that many times. If I touch my hair I know I will have to wash my hands the next time I do something with food. If I rub my eyes I wash my hands. Wearing gloves isn't so I don't have to wash my hands. It's an added precaution that's all.

Don't feel bad, just think of it like this, your a very clean person and you must take really good care of your hands and don't like them to feel weird. Believe me there are a lot of things that I cook that I don't like the feel of. I know one thing, I wouldn't mind eating at your house!!! :-)

hi pointlessquestions Ido notr wear glives but I know a lot who do.I do wash my hands often when I had my own apartment and was cooking so my hands were not gunky. Iknow at lot of people who do so tell your daughter you do not have OCD. lol That your right to be clean like that, theres not athing wrng with it. the law makes oall the care givers in the kitchen and dining room to wear gloves and their long Mexican tresses muat be curtailed into an net.Safety for onver 113 residents here. just imagine it food poisoing broke out here wha a mess . nof nurses or doctors on rthe premises so they would have to shuttle them off to t he ERs via amubulance. lol

I don't think I have it either Hatley. Yes, any business that serves food has to follow rules established by the government to stay in business. Being a nurse, I am always thinking of preventing contamination. My daughter has gotten sick before when eating out. Like maybe the food is keft out too long and the temperature if the food gets too warm. She won't eat seafood out because she has been sick before. I'm just really careful.

I could not do anything with gloves. But my mother does not like to get her hands dirty, just as you. She used to garden a lot (with gloves) and cooked awesome food with spoons, forks and knives that she used very well. I like to use my hands. I don`t think it`s a sign of any disease though

I personally feel it is clean enough if I wash my hands often. I don`t think that we need to be more aseptic. We live in a world with germs and we cannot live on a bubble to avoid them. I took extra measures in that sense when I had my chemo as my defenses were very low, but those did not include using gloves at home. I did cook all the veggies except the ones that I grew at home and used lysol everywhere to clean the house every day.

For me, I font like the feel of meat on my hands. I don't like the coldness either from being in the fridge. Cold hurts my hands something fierce. The gloves help to insulate my hands from the uncomfortable cold. Of course I still don't like staph germs being passed to the meat. Yes I wash my hands 50 times a day maybe, but it's sue to I'm very busy. Any time I do something in the kitchen I wash. I wash before washing dishes too. I know we live with germs and we need germs to stimulate the immune system. There are enough germs on clean hands to do that.

We naturally carry staph microbes on our hands, so germs are mostly spread by direct contact. Even washing our hands doesn't get rid if all if them. I don't like the feel of raw meat in my hands. I do it for my comfort and for aseptic purposes.

I don't mind touching meat . . . but I'll bet the gloves come in handy for not getting bits caught under your nails! How is it handling dough with the gloves - less sticky? I can't even wear gloves for washing dishes - I feel like a fumbling when I wear them - hee hee.

Yes it is less sticky. I've always had an aversion to handling raw meat. It's the wetness and coldness of it, I think. Sometimes pork chops are kind if tacky feeling and I hate that too. I was them to get that tacky feeling off. I just imagine all kinds of microbes colonizing on the near lol. As long as I wear gloves I'm not bothered. I live cooking, so gloves just helps me with the prep work.

It isn't about not being clean. I wash my hands very often. Every time I go to do something in the kitchen I wash my hands first. It's about the feel of it on my hands. It's also about the cold from the fridge. I don't like it. It's uncomfortable for me.

I don't like the tackiness of dough on my hands so I use them for that too.
