Stuffing stockings

I've gotten almost all of my Christmas shopping done this year. But there is one area that I haven't even started thinking about at all. That is stocking stuffers. I just don't have any clue at all what I should think about this year as stocking stuffers for my children. My daughter is 10-years-old and my son is 6-years-old. The one thing that my daughter has said that she wants to find in her stocking this year is makeup brushes and the thing that my son has said that he wants in his stocking are some Hotwheels. Can you make any suggestions of what else I could use to stuff their stockings with this year? If you have children of your own, or someone else that you are going to be stuffing a stocking for, how old is that person and what are some of the things that you are going to be putting in the stocking on Christmas morning?

Last year we fill our daughter's Christmas socks with goodies every morning, when we arrive from work. And, she'd check on those first thing when she wake up. However, we failed on doing a repeat of it this year. Oh well, its not yet too late. We can start with it tomorrow. We would tell her, if she'll be a good girl this day, Santa's going to leave goodies in her socks the next morning. Her ultimate gift for Christmas would be placed by the Christmas tree.

We've actually never done daily goodies in their stockings, instead, we will fill their stockings with goodies on Christmas Eve. Typically, we choose the smaller toys that they both collect, but Kathryn has pretty much grown out of this now, so it is a big more difficult for me this year.

Oh I see. We have their gifts wrapped and placed under the tree so they get to open it on Christmas eve. However, this year, I haven't thought of wrapping gifts. After we went on Christmas shopping, I just placed the new clothes and toys along with their stuff.

I haven't gotten my stuff wrapped at all yet. Of course, I do have my mother helping me out by wrapping some of my gifts for me because they are at her house and we will be having Christmas with her, my siblings and my nieces on Christmas Day over there. I see no point in bringing the gifts to my house to turn around and take them back to her house.

I used to put cheap things in stockings, when my children were little. I did not overlook those sticker they so like, small crayons and little books, some wrapped candy. I never asked them what they wanted at their stocking. I felt tht the surprise was part of it.

If you can stand it, another good idea are small music instruments like a harmonic or small flute. Children love to make noise

Well, they are both getting acoustic guitars this year from Santa, so I think that might be all the noise makers that they need for this year. However, I do think this is a great suggestion that other people might be able to use.

In the past I've always done a box of crayons in their stockings since they both love to color and draw and I might make a repeat this year, but they did just recently spend all of their piggy bank money on a large set of markers and also a large set of Twistables colored pencils and markers.

I do stocking yet and find that shopping for the stocking stuffers is the fun part of Christmas! One thing my family would be very disappointed if they were left out is the McDonalds gift cards. I also find other things like small bottles of lotion...cute kleenex. For the guys...fishing lures...things like that. But everyone loves the Arch cards!

Well, I can't say that I would be thrilled with a McDonald's card, but then I think that I'm just strange. That is a neat idea of something to include in a stocking though. If I was to give them to my children, they would use them exclusively on ice cream (I know this because we had a huge fight just tonight over my not letting them get an ice cream cone from McDonalds).

For your daughter, I would suggest a paperback book or two, cute socks, hair stuff (What girl doesn't need more scrunchies, headbands, etc.?), nail polish (a multi-pack would go over well), funky pens (possibly glitter or gel). For your son, again I would suggest adding a book or two (Can you tell that I'm a big fan of books?) and things such as chocolate-covered cherries or raisins (whatever he likes the best), a compass, small flashlight, a toothbrush with his favorite cartoon characters on it.

My GS would love a flashlight. Thanks for the idea- I will get him one to put in his stocking. Thanks for the idea

Well, I will leave the toothbrushes to their grandma as she always includes a toothbrush in everyone's stockings. I love the ideas of books though. What I might do is go to Half-Priced Books and get each of them a five dollar gift card so they can pick their own books.

I have yet to get a few more bits for the childrens stockings, but there is a few more days as yet to get them.I put small boxs of sweets in the stockings, as well as socks, also toys and a drink, that way they have a bit of every thing, much easier that way, plus the stocking gets full faster.

As much as I love the idea of socks in the stocking, it isn't something that I can do because our pets will be giving everyone in the family a new package of underwear this year and my mother's three dogs will be giving everyone a brand new pack of socks. This is a tradition that my parents started when I was just a baby and it is something that I've brought to my own house.

I havent gotten anything for my kids either for there stockings. I need to get something as well. Something small is what you need. Hotwheels are always good for boys for your daugter hmmm she is 10 so she is probably starting to et into makeup. Nail polish is always good or nail filler. I think I'm going to end up with bubbles and some kind of teething toy in our stockings for my kid.

In all actuality, she's been into makeup since she was about six-years-old. So any of those beauty items are great ideas. I loved someone else's suggestion of a book, but I'd rather they pick out their own books, so I'm hoping to get them each a $5.00 gift card for Half Priced Books and a pair of gloves each as well.

How about a DVD. I usually buy some Little Debbie Snack Cakes and put one in their stockings. I go to the dollar store and look for little toys or crafty things that they would like. Markers or paints are good.

Crafty things are always a wonderful idea for my children because of the fact that they both love doing arts and crafts. In fact, my oldest is quite the accomplished artist. She's had artwork featured in a county-wide art show in the past and she is again going to be having an art show this year with her friends in the school's art club.

candy is obvious but what about nail polish for your daughter and school stuff or arts and craft stuff? new toothbrushes, mitts or gloves, i am stuffing one for my mom and i have bought her some fancy kleenexes, hand cream, lip balm, stuff like that.

Oh, I really like the idea of getting each of them a new pair of gloves to put in their stockings. They always seem to lose one of those so I don't think that you can have too many pairs of gloves. I might also borrow a couple of ideas that you are using for your mom and put the in my daughter's stocking, like lotion and lip balm.

I always would get little things that didn't cost a lot. I would get a few little makeup brushes and a couple hot wheels. To help it look like a lot was in the stocking, I always got big oranges and put in the toe. I got little books and crayons, gel pens or colored pencils. Some of the things that work out well are the little party favors you can pick up in the birthday party department of a store. Sometimes you can find crazy straws, sunglasses, that's a great place to find little treasures to fill up their stockings with.

I never thought about looking at the party supplies that you might be able to find at the store. That might give me some other little things that I would be able to put in their stockings this year.

We are thinking alike as just yesterday I was thinking of what to put in their stockings. The twins are six years old - boy and girl. I am hoping that others will respond with great ideas. All I can think of is candy, playing cards, play make up for the girl, and that is about it for the moment. My GD likes little notebooks and pens. So that is something else I can do. They like comic books too so that is another idea. I am coming up with ideas just by answering your post

For your GS, cars is a really good idea, like Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars. Another idea that I've used in the past for both of my kiddos is crayons or other art supplies. Stickers, a small set of tools or something might also make your GS think of himself as being the man of the house.

I decided this year I am only going to stuff the stockings with one item! They are getting some nice gifts under the tree from us (ahem, the Santas) along with stuff from other family members and friends, so I figure just one in the stocking will be ok. For the kids (almost 8 and 3 now), as they are into Mario Brothers, I actually found Mario gummy candies in a box at the 99cent store (I couldn't believe it because there's hardly ever any Super Mario stuff there). It's a thin box but over a hand's length in size, so it would be decent enough to fit as the one item in each of their stockings. For my hubby, I found a small box of Bailey's chocolates at Cost Plus which will be something he cannot share with the kids - ha ha. It was actually more than I would normally pay for a chocolate item, but he's worked so hard as he does every year - he's worth it.

I think I know about the size of the box of candy that you are talking about as I got Paul a box of Angry Birds gummies over the weekend. I would love to find some more of those to put in his stocking, but it was the only box that we could find at the store.

Haha 10 years old may be a little old for stocking stuffers, but that is OK we all should keep our childishness forever. As for me I will just put some gadgets which my kids like very much into the stock.

Nah, I don't think that she is too old. Granted I've revealed the truth about Santa Claus to her, however, I do think that those small treasures are something that she will get every year for the rest of her life. You see, my husband and myself do still get stockings at Christmas from his parents and I love the idea of carrying that on.

If you go to Target they always have a section usually in the back of the store just for stocking stuffers. Also if you go to Walmart in the candy isle they have a movie candy section where most of the stuff is $1.00, like sour patch kids, skittles etc.

You know what I think is even better than the stocking stuffers area of Target is the Dollar Spot right at the front of the store. They have some really neat things in their dollar area and they are actually high quality items.

For my son, he is 6 years old and he wants toy cars (hot wheels or lighting Mcqueen/ Mater) and he asked for chocolates. My daughter doesn't care at all. She will be three years old this coming 30th of this month.

It was when my daughter is was the age that your daughter is now that I started getting miniature pets for her. Littlest Pet Shop toys. She is ten years old now and believe it or not, she still plays with those toys that she's had for seven years now.

For me, it really is hit and miss in the dollar stores. I'm hoping that I will be able to find the makeup brushes for Kathryn at the Dollar Tree and I also hope to be able to find her a few little makeup things there as well. When it comes to Paul, I've never really had luck at the dollar store.

I would like to do that since my child is three years old already. That is fun and exciting for them. Maybe I will stuff the stocking with some of his favorite candies and chocolates and small toys too. I hope he will be happy with that. :-) Have a nice day!

I'm sure that he will be happy with those things. I am considering getting them each a box of their favorite candies to go in their stockings this year.
