How do I get a credit card?

So I've had a debit card for a while now. I'm pretty good with managing my finances and know not to spend more than I have. Also, I'm more into saving rather than spending. & these days, I've been looking into getting a credit card that earns reward points for cash back, airline miles, etc. The thing is I've never took out a loan or anything that gives me some kind of credit history, so I don't know how I'd apply for and get accepted for a credit card. I also understand that if I get rejected for a credit card, my credit score suffers. Does anyone have any recommendations of how I can get a credit card without lowering my credit score at the risk of rejection due to lack of credit history?

I think you should try applying for one and see if you qualify for one. It hurts your credit score a little bit you perhaps you can qualify. Try one of the cards with a rewards program but not one that has the best program because those are the hardest to get. If it's available to you, you could try to get the Chase Freedom, many people with limited credit score have had good luck getting the Freedom with a low credit limit.

Thanks for your response. Yes, that's what I've been told, that it'd hurt my credit score to apply and get rejected. But I also heard that I get a clean slate at the beginning of a new year. Have you heard of this, and is it true? Thanks for your advise, and I will look into Chase Freedom.

I like to use the credit card all the time. As it can give me many bonus according to my purchase amount. And I don't have money inside. I just need to return the money on time and everything will be fine. It is easy to apply for a credit card here. It seems that the banks encourage you do so and perhaps this is how they can make more money. It is better you have a job so that you can apply for it. Then provide your ID card copy and fill the form. Then wait for a few weeks and your credit card will be sent to you.

Thanks for your response and advise regarding this matter. I will probably go down to my local bank and try to apply there. I am a little hesitant about applying online again and getting rejected as it will cause my credit score to drop. I want to start earning reward points for my purchases, and I feel that I will be able to control my spending as I have had some experience with my debit card.

You can better go to BDO or BPI, you can inquire and I think these banks are good in terms of debt card. Have a great day. :)

Thanks for your response. I reside on Guam, and I think that I will stick to my local banks instead. But I would consider those banks you mentioned if ever I plan to move to the Philippines sometime. Hehe. =)
