How to go about plans in migrating to Australia or New Zealand

Hi Filipino lotters, I wanted to open this discussion about the subject because my family is considering the option of living in either Australia or NZ. I totally don't have the slightest idea of how to go about it. I don't want to approach an agency just yet, because I think they always talk business and not really very helpful, especially with budget. I hope I can hear from fellow lotters who have the knowledge or experience with migration processes. What's the best approach? Do we go to an agency or are there other ways?

I really have no personal experience regarding that. But my brother did want to migrate to Australia and I think he paid about 300k pesos for it and was told that the processing would take a year or two. From what I have heard, he applied via an agency. The application is now running for the last 10 months, and he is hoping that he would be approved.

I think that it is similar to applying for a visa. You can either be granted or denied. So the risk of losing that much is at stake. So better ask them if they are really up to the idea of migrating to Australia or not. They should be able to know if their skills would meet any jobs in the area to sustain them. That was one major issue that my brother took into consideration.

So we really need to make good research and also talk to friends who have gone through the process for advices.

I hope he finally gets to fly. If we pay that much, is there an assurance that you're really going? or, everything is a risk?

In my opinion, the best option is to first inquire in Australian or New Zealand Embassy. I am also planning to live abroad, but I think I'm not really lucky. My siblings are already citizens of Austria, but until now, I am still here in the Philippines.

Is there soemtihng holding you back. I am also thinking of leaving the country for work unless there's a good opportunity here or family obligations might come first.

Hi wittynet, what was the reason why you are left behind? I wonder what the common issues are with migration, so we could prepare for it. Is it true that it usually takes years for approval and finally flying to the destination country?
