Christmas parade

Today was the annual city Christmas parade and I took the kids downtown to it. The weather wasn't the best as it was a little bit chilly (but at least not downright cold) and it was drizzling rain on and off. Of course, this did mean that there were not as many people there as there would have been had it not been raining.
During the parade there were a lot of different people that were handing out candy and candy canes and the children really loved this. In addition to the simple candy, there were a few presents that were being handed out as well. My children ended up with three new rubber ducks from our water company, my daughter got a t-shirt from a local cheerleading group and Paul got a tractor toy from another float in the parade.
Have you been to a Christmas parade this year? If you have, was there a lot of candy and gifts that were being handed out to the children that were watching the parade? And the necessary question that has to be asked, if you have been to a parade, was the Big Guy at the very end of the parade?

We don't do Christmas parades here. it's a tradition for the fire department to cmoe around , sirens blazing, and pass out candy canes.

The publish days and times in advance, so we know they're coming

That would most definitely make a difference. Of course knowing me and how forgetful that I am, I would forget.

I did not go. My son went with his Aide that comes in once a week. There was not much handed at ours this time. The Big Guy was there at the end, and went to his house on our Town Square afterwards.

I have to admit that I was shocked at how much candy and goodies that they were giving out this year.
Of course, I also have to admit that it has been several years since I've been to the Christmas parade as well because I have just forgotten about it. This year, however, I wanted to do something fun with the kids and what better can you ask for than something that is free.

We do not have a parade here, instead we have the big switch on where lights are turned on a few weeks before christmas in the town.
Neither do they give the children things here for nothing, instead they have stalls where you can buy things for the children and they are really expensive.
It sounds great and I bet that you all had fun.

Oh, they did have vendors that were trying to rip people off as well. But, I definitely didn't buy any of those for my children because I was smart before we went to the parade and didn't take a bit of money with me and left my keys locked in the trunk.
