Do you keep a pocket diary for manual record of phone numbers?

Dear mylotters Recently many of my friends complaints that they either they lost their mobile phone or lost data from it so they could not track their friends including me. You may agree with me, these days all have the habit of storing the number in mobile phone or in computer. Earlier when I hadn’t used a mobile phone then I had the habit of remembering phone numbers and if I use one number 2-3 times I can easily remember that number without looking anywhere. But once I start using mobile I too addicted by storing the data in mobile and never try to store in my brain. I have a small pocket diary still with me I used earlier where I have kept important numbers and address of people. Do you have the habit of keeping records manually as a precaution? Do you remember the numbers without looking anywhere? Have you lost track of friends just because of losing your mobile? Please share your opinion. Another weekend here and have a great time to all. December 7, 2012.

Hmm.., you just made me realize that I'll be doomed if I ever lost my mobile or if something happened to its data. No, I do not keep manual records of all my contacts in it. And the only numbers I remember are those of my spouse and kids.

Hello Sishy, Do you think it would be wise to keep a manual record too? In case if we lost the mobile or data, we have to recollect everything again but how? Yes, I too remember my hubby's number and some other numbers I used to call most often. Thanks for the quick start of discussion.

OMG, you're right! I better start paying attention to my own topic. Thanks for the reminder; but I have to warn you that I am not a good cook nor a baker, so it's going to take a while before I get a cake ready...

Hiya sreekala, Who can even remember their own mobile phone numbers sometimes? I have come across that a lot when people recharge their cards in the Cashiers in the Shops they cannot remember their own number. I keep them manually and also on notepad too. Okay so the computer can crash but then you could also lose the pieces of paper or whatever. Me too I can remember numbers I use a lot and numbers of other people when they call which comes in handy for me in particular.xxx

Hello angel, I said in the above box, I could not remember my number in the beginning time (when Owned a mobile) and you are saying the same thing here. See, our own number we are not using to call, am I right, then how it could feed in our brain easily. Now I can remember my number well and also remember the numbers I used on daily basis. Keeping a pocket diary is also not an easy task, you have to update the same and if the paper is torn then buy a new one and shift the details to new, tiresome work indeed.

Hello sreekala, That is right the other month I had to fill out a form and put our own telephone number on it and all of a sudden I thought what is the number? I can remember my own mobile phone much better and its a longer number. I had to get out my very small diary and get it from there thank goodness I hide that away that way I don´t lose it. Well if I had to fill out a new diary I would not be very happy about it but I would eventually do it its like some cleaning things that I don´t like but I still do the jobs eventually. Question of habit I think more than anything else that makes us remember again because we can remember if we make it a habit. The trouble is taking the time to make it a habit.xxx

Actually like others have posted here, I would be in trouble if something happened and I lost all my phone numbers. I am actually thinking of switching to straight talk with my Cell phone plan and may have to write down all the numbers somewhere first. Other than that, except for what few numbers I have memorized, I would be in trouble when it comes to calling someone.

Hi tash, I hope you would have done the updating process by now. In fact, I am bit lazy to that updates, many times I thought about it but I have the important numbers in my heart, may be that is the reason I am not giving much importance. Have a nice day to you.

No, I dont use a pocket diary to write down phone numbers. I usually stay in touch with those number owners. Say, if i lost your number, then just a mail or PM is enough to get it back. right? Have a nice time Sree.

It's true. Most of us don't carry phone numbers in a diary. Mobile phones have made us so dependent on them, we even refuse to keep them away. But i usually remember all the important numbers. I also have the habit of looking at the numbers when my phone rings so that I can easily remember the numbers with the names. I know all my family member's and friends' numbers by heart.

Hello priya, That is really a good habit and easy way to learn the numbers of other people. I could by-heart the number on dialing before the time I owned a mobile handset. But once I started to use the mobile, I forgot to learn and keep the numbers in my brain. However, I too am aware about the numbers of close peoples. So I hope there won't be any regret. Thank you so much and have a nice time.

Hi Sree dear, I could remember the phone numbers of my loved ones and some close family members as well as a few of my friends. They are those with unique combinations that easy for me to remember I don't have any pocket diary for manual record phone numbers nowadays. I keep them all saved in my sim card. There is another same copy in my laptop. This is for the safety not to lose all the valuable contact information in case I have lost my phone. Lol...even though the old mini pocket diary is still lying in the corner of the drawer. But haven't got it upgraded yet with all the new phone numbers added Hugs and happy posting

Yeah myfb2009, there would always be a way if we really want to remember the particular number. Like the one mentioned in the above post is easy for me to remember. I don't mind using indecent words to get the combination of phone number kept in mind as long as I can remember them easily

Hi dear, It seems your memory is so good. Once I started to use my mobile I lost the habit of memorizing the numbers of friends. But those are in my brain already there. Now I am not trying to feed the numbers in brain. Not saved in computer too, only in sim and don't know how long my mobile will work it is already damaged. Take care dear

Hello Sree kala We were just discussing this topic at my parents in law. They were just saying how they don't even know each other's number, but fortunately I know my wife's number and she knows mine so all it's not lost even though we don't keep pocket diaries.

Hello Sidhu, I presume you have a poor memory and there is no need to blame mobile number for that. Now the jokes apart, I agree by using the mobile number we forget the habit of remembering the numbers in heart or brain. (Now I am confused which part is using, lol). If we use land phone, on dialing the number 2-3 times, we can easily memorize the number but on mobile we are just selecting the name and calling, we don’t even care the numbers mostly. The reason for forgetting dates, you are at home everyday day. So that habit is usual with every one.

Hi Sree, I had a habit of keeping all contacts in a single sheet of paper (3 finger width) on a long sheet printed in Font size 5 and used to regularly update and it was a habit of last 10-15 years, even before the mobile phones were come into practice. I am using mobile phone for the last 10 years and more but never lost or stolen. Also, changed nearly 15 different hand-sets and all data got transferred each time when I change the mobile phones. I am having more than 400 nos. and (your no is not included as I don't have, but have 4-5 myLot friends mob. nos. with me!) Also, I never refferred the printed number list for the last 5 years but this sheet is ready with me in my purse and also the updated one in my computer too. It is a pleasure for me to keep such things but not so carzy too. I think we are talking a long time and hope you are doing fine and good. Regards

Hello brother, Yes, we are interacting after a long time, but I seen your name in home page as updates on your participation in topics. I am fine and hope you too along with family, especially your angel. Regarding the topic, I am bit lazy to update the numbers I thought to change my old diary and re-write manually in a new but laziness not allowing the work. But I have the contact numbers of important people. But definitely I have less numbers than you. I too have 6 mylot peoples numbers. Take care and have a great time.

Hello brother, I agree with you, it will be safe and I will make a record quickly for sure. (without any laziness). I think I can follow your foot steps and make that kind of data so I can avoid the writing part. Good to know about the angel, is she in 20th std now?

Hi Sree, Thanks for your response. I think if we have the numbers written somewhere, it is the really best way to keep the numbers safe than any other medias. That is the reason why I used to keep a printed version with me. Mostly I won't carry it but in case, mobile is mis-placed or stolen or computer is damaged or anything uneve happens, this wirtten pages will always help and if we have a maintained hand book, that would be always good, though its demand is deteriorating as other medias and methods are much higher in use. The angel is doing fine, thank you!

Hi, For me, having this pocket diary / telephone index has become 'once upon a time' now. Now i no more carry such diaries but most of the numbers were saved in home pc (now that is gone for formating - sure i'd lose those numbers). Certain numbers are written in a note pad and the memory on cell phone is full too - that include your/other mylot friends no. in it too.... My memory was good in remembering numbers but the hi-tech has made me 'not to bother' anymore as in office we have Operators/website to dig out numbers and at person front - hopefully i will have the numbers at hand @ hour need. happy weekend to u too....

Hello Viju It seems you are in a hurry or forgot my name. I agree, the technology is making us lazy and our brain too. No wonder people have the forgetting problem more than in earlier time as they never use their brain to store data. If the brain does not have much work it also start to sleep (memory part).

Usually I am noting all important phone numbers in my diary with any important data related to it. Certainly it is a permanent recording. Recently I am not a person interested in diary writing and noting phone numbers in diary provides me a chance to note something on the date page.

Yes friend,... I don't know what happened to my habit of trying to write diary daily night. I am aware that making dreams about future and fond to nostalgia are leaving gradually from me. Then diary writing may lost its liveliness. Similar to your case children of my family are happily collecting my old blank diaries to make rough notes or drawings.

Pocket Diaries are very useful to keep the address, contact numbers and other important details safely. Previously most of us are note down the address and contact numbers in the pocket diaries, but now a days we are using cell phones and store our friends and relatives numbers in it without writing it in our diaries. We may miss our cell phone any time, if we missed our cell phone we will miss the number too. It is always good habit to note down the number in our pocket diary. Most of us don't have good memory power and forget about the numbers easily, if we write down the numbers in the diary it will be useful to call our friends and beloved persons at any time even though we forget their number as well as missed our cell phone. Always i note down all the important numbers, contact address and email id in my pocket diary and keep it with me. Keeping pocket diary is always a good habit and we will get the important details easily with the help of it. It is easy to store the important numbers in the cellphones, so most of us are not interested in writing down the numbers and simply saved it in our phones. But we will lose all the date if we missed our cell phone. There is nothing wrong in keeping the important numbers with us in the written format, it will always help us whenever needed. We can note various important details like our friends birth day, wedding days, contact numbers, emails and other important details in our pocket note book and get the details easily at any time if we keep it in a good manner. Even though the technology is improved a lot and we have lot of advanced facilities, we must give importance to the old things and write down the important things in our diary for instant reference.

Hello Vidhya, Your response reminds me you are on courier service and how important the contact details for you to run your business successfully. I agree with you, if you lose any number or address it would affect you seriously. In the same way it is important for our normal life too. Still many people depend on technologies and repenting when they contact details due to any reason. (there are so many reasons, the mobile may get damage, will get stolen etc etc) It is always good to keep a diary for noting down all the things. By the by, the year is going to end and in the beginning of the year you supposed to send a diary for me. Can I expect the same in New Year?

Hi myfb, There is a limitation to depend on the technologies. One of my friends told me recently her son plays with her mobile and deleted all the contacts. She tried to relocate all of her contacts and solve the problem mostly but again her son did the same by hiding. She didn't aware that her son takes her mobile again. She becomes upset and angry but no use. Have a great week dear.

Before I also used to do that. I do received a lot of pocket diary or the pocket journal. I am sick what will I gonna do with so much of those and so it came to my mind to store and write those contacts of my friends in there. But now, I do not be able to do that because it is so easy to change a cell phone number because the sim card is just very cheap. I just take down the important land line numbers and e mail addresses.

In the U.S., I don't worry about it too much because it is usually pretty easy to either find someone's email/Facebook address or find the website where a company's information can be reached. However, when I am traveling to countries where I am not fluent in the language, I am very cautious about getting the right phone numbers and having them written down as well. Information is power!
