The phone book

I don't know how many other countries have Phone Books. With the influx of cell phones this service seems to be fading away. But for those of us who still have land lines, we get phone books, showing businesses, even personal phone numbers. My main problem is to find what a service is listed under. I wanted to change the oil in my car, a service most car owners face at least once a year. First I looked under oil, well that only gave me oil in bulk, then I looked under car of oil change services, nothing there, by then it was time for a meal to I fixed the meal and kept thinking what could change of oil be listed under. Finally I went back to the book after dinner and looked under automobile services, there it was automobile services, oil changer. Now of couse it was to late to do anything today and tomorrow is Sunday so I'll try to get this done on Monday. What a pain.

I have always thought that people who make cross references at phone books are chosen for their twisted minds. Fortunatly, now we have a service here (not free though) where we can ask the phone company to give us phone numbers. I prefer to use that instead of spending hours searching.

Anymore I often wonder what their thoughts are on Phone books, and why so many times when they deliver ones around here, it is like 3-4 different ones like 2 or more times a yr. I feel many times they should only offer them if you want them, and not just leave them due to the cost. I personally get better luck looking for something online over a phone book anyways.

I am fortunate in that I get reminders from the garage I get my car serviced at, they send me letters to say that my MOT is due and a full service, it works out well because my MOT and Full Service are done together in July, so I only have to worry about taking my car in once a year. I bought my car from the garage, they are a reputable car dealer and I have had never any problem with them. The only trouble when looking in the phone book, you don't know what sort of service you will get, or if the job will be done properly. That's why it's best to go on recommendations from friends, neighbours, relatives etc. I had the same trouble with the phonebook, it's knowing what to look up and it's never under the most obvious title either!

Sometimes its easier to look things like that up online. I would have looked up mechanic to find someone who could change the oil in my vehicle. Mine is due. I should have called friday to see if it could be dropped off monday but I forgot and I cant call monday because they will say tuesday and i need my van on wednesday and friday so I guess I wont be getting it done until the following week. I still have a landline and a cell phone.

WE have a new phone book publish every year , my only reason for getting a phone book is to contact some company . Also that will soon not be necessary as I can find almost any business Facebook page are at least a website . I dont own one but my grandmother still used them and I would pick one up for her.

We still have phone books here, but I have not used a phone book in a long time. I don't need one with all the smart phones and the internet.

Yes, We still have Phone Directories, in India. But they are not published frequently with regular intervals. Last time I was given a directory by my telephone department was in 2006 if I remember right. There is no phone book for mobile subscribers at all.
