Odesk: Is it significant to take those 'tests'?

I made an odesk account just a while ago, I'm still a college student and hadn't really had any jobs or been employed to any part-time jobs. I'm currently building my profile right now and knowing that I don't have any work or employment experiences I know that it'll be a huge factor in my profile, and me getting hired by contractors. I've seen that there were tests out there, so as to increase the credibility and reliability in skills of the job looker, most of them takes about 40 minutes, I don't really have time for those right now 'coz it's already midnight so I'm afraid I'm too cranky and sleepy to answer those questions logically, I'm thinking of taking them later when I think I have enough patience and rationality. Do you think they are that essential or do some of you who are Odesk users didn't really take any of those tests but still you got hired by contractors? I wanna know of your experiences in that website. Thanks.

I have an Odesk account already but i did not finished the application for i got so confused there . Many things to consider , i even don't know if i am an employer or a contractor. I am not good in Computer language that is why i got hard time comprehending the nature of this Odesk. Many are in Odesk , maybe they are just so patient which i don't have. One tip i want to share , if you want to be in Odesk , you must have huge of patience. Goodluck then for the exam and interview.

I understand, I don't have much patience either, it's not really my virtue, but maybe once this week is over I'll be able to take those tests and try and understand all that must be understood in Odesk. Thanks for responding!

@michie198 Hi there! Thank you so much for that very useful info, I actually though that contractor and employer was of the same thing/person when I scanned the website. XD

I guess you can work as translator.

Since it is online you do not have to worry about the market within your country or local area. There are a lot of opportunities for translators on the site and it is a dedicated category. I believe they have language translation tests to prove your skills to prospective clients.

You will need those tests because some employers require certain their applicants to pass some of the exams given by odesk before they even consider you. Also passing as much tests as possible will also good look on your profile.

on odesk everything is made to build a serious schedule to describeyour personal profile and so having chances to gain more job requests anyway it depends from your skills to earn some decent jobs mabe some can be hired for decent jobs and in other cases not at all odesk experiences are always difficult to define in general because depends on case by case..

Getting extra credentials is never a bad thing if you ask me. It takes time but once you have a solid reputation on Odesk it will help you out a lot going forward.

Yeah, I just hope I'll have the time to take those tests, I'm very busy this week so I am not able to update my profile there. Thanks for responding!

I have been a user on oDesk for about 3 years now and I really enjoy it. From my experience it is important to take the tests especially if they are offering a test that shows off a specific skill of yours. I have resume writing and reviewing experience as an HR assistant but no samples so my high score on the test helps me a lot. Employers can search by who has completed which tests so it does make sense to take them even if you have a great portfolio. The key is to not get knocked out of any refined search results.

It would really be awesome if I get hired for a couple of jobs in there and get paid for it. I'm glad that an Odesk user had replied in this thread too, I'm thinking of taking some tests once my classes for December is over.

Hello, Jhustinian! I just made my oDesk account, too and according to "launch your oDesk career", you need to take the oDesk readiness quiz and some skills test. You also need to make a good profile. These give you higher chances of being employed in oDesk. I hope my comment helps. Happy Mylotting!
