Christmas in Bath

No not to get cleaner than clean or to relax but to SHOP. Were talking the place that is a world famous Georgian city in the south of England. The main shopping street with a tightrope walker playing violin, an artist painting a picture of a dog from a photo, numerous living statues, buskers and of course shops with many special offers. Bath is so cosmopolitan with people from all over visiting the many attractions in such a small area including the ever popular Spa Baths. Due to it's compact nature it is always advisable to use one of the 2 park and rides with buses running every 15 minutes. For the same reason it is easy to get around as the main shopping area is pedestrianised with stalls present where all things christmassy can be purchased. With the Christmas decorations and lights when the early winter dusk falls although chilly gives a nice atmosphere.

What you talked about gave a good picture of the world famous city where it was full of festival atmosphere and seethed with joy.Is It renowned for its bath? Do you live near to there? I am so ill-informed that nearly mistook it for Georgian (U.S.state.)

Glad you enjoyed the slightly different posting my friend and it had my desired effect. I live about ten miles for the center of Bath through countryside ( rural ) and about the same to the center of Bristol through housing and shops ( urbane ). Have a great Christmas full of cheer.

Thank you for you blessing, though I am not a Christian. Where you live in seems to be an ideal place for old people. You can enjoy the rural scenery, but the shops and cities are well within your reach.

This is much the same throughout the whole of England as it is a smallish island things are fairly well packed in. At the moment local bus travel for the over sixties is free for most of the day until the government decides it is too expensive. Do you not have a celebration around this time of year. I know the Chinese new year celebrations are a little later and this time of year was a celebratory time before Christianity. In Christian countries retail industry has jumped on the idea of gift giving to boost their trade.

I was thinking you are going to spend your entire Christmas in bath(room) for a total clean up ready for the coming of a new year (2013), Gosh! i really got that wrong. After read through your discussion other than just the title, i realized you are talking about a Georgian city in south of England, it is quite an eye opener knowing from you that such a beautiful place is still available for anyone who want to celebrate their Christmas holiday peacefully in England.

Happy to give you a little twist we were just taking our eldest granddaughter now 14 to do Christmas shopping for her Mum & Dad and because Bath is so beautiful, especially so at Christmas time I thought I would share with my friends here. There are quite a few places in Britain that are beautiful due to their age but Bath is so well written about and for those that want to, can be looked up on the internet. I must admit that mainland is still quite peaceful but it is sad that violence has come to the fore in Ireland again. Happy Christmas lamps.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Ha ha ha ha. For a moment i was confused when i heard the word Bath and then after going through your discussion i got to know that u were actually talking about a place called Bath. Well it is absolutely great to know that though a small place but still it has so much things to offer to the tourists. Besides it would be lovely to see Christmas decorations all around and it gives u a different feeling altogether. What say?

Glad I was able to lighten your mood a little, that was the intention and to give those who have no idea of what these famous places are like when it comes to times of celebration like Christmas. The streets are small as they were meant for horse drawn carriages and it is better not to try to take cars through the city, therefore there are 2 park and rides serving the city. That is you drive your car to a large car park and then board a kneeling bus ( one that lowers on stopping to allow disabled people easier access ) that runs every 15 minutes to the city. Wishing you good cheer for Christmas.
