Free offers not so free?

I just clicked a link for a free cd with assorted images on it. After reading the whole thing it ends up it's going to cost $14.99! I thought I had learned my lesson years ago that nothing on the internet is as free as they say they are. There is always a catch somewhere if you read the whole ad. I especially have to laugh at the ones that after you put in your email and read what's written in very small print at the bottom and they want you to do 3 or 4 things usually involving your debit/credit card...so that's free? I don't think so. Have you really found any free offers on the internet? If so please share!

Aside from free downloads of games and some applications, I have yet to come across a site that really offers free, no-strings-attached items. I had gotten some really great bargains though like getting something for only a fraction of the actual cost.

I have to admit I've also gotten some really great bargains this year for Christmas gifts.

What people do who do these free offers are sign up for them, definitely read the Terms of Service, and then cancel the service before the trial ends and you get charged. A lot of these companies, though, are shady and will end up charging you anyway. Those are the free trial offers, anyway. Even the "free" offers are not "free" -- if you are a GPT nut, you know that sometimes they credit you, and sometimes they don't, but either way, you are selling your information to TONS of third parties to get paid that .50 cents or whatever. So, while it's wrong/against the rules to submit completely false information, you want to make sure you use a phone number or email that you don't mind getting spammed to the nth degree. I unknowingly signed up for these free offers with my school e-mail, not thinking about it... And I think I proceeded to get about 100 spam emails a day. Hmph!

I"ve heard of people getting charged before the trial date is up. I stay away from any so called "free trials" because as I said they are not free in the end.

I get free samples on the internet all the time from freeflys.com. All you do is a quick sign up and you CAN get free things because I do! =) Also I am on a site called Listia.com and I get free things there too. Instead of using money you use credits, so everything really is free there as well. I love it, I have gotten many cool things free on there!! So it is possible if you go to the right sites. There are many scams out there so I am careful and just stick with these two sites that I know are good and for real.
