It's been an hour and the lights are still off.

We have a power cut in my city for the past hour. The lights went off and I am sitting here with a candle but the room is getting colder without heating and I think I will sit in bed if it doesn't come soon. I called my friend who is outside and he says it's the same at the other side of the city as well. Sometimes the power comes for a few minutes but it's too low and the lights barely give some light. At those moments I can also connect online because the modem has enough power to connect as long as it is plugged. But I unplugged my laptop fearing that it might be damaged from the low voltage. Now I am waiting for the low voltage to come and connect online in order to post the discussion from my phone and spend some time with you guys!
What do you do if the lights go off for a long time? I thought I should read a book but there isn't enough light from the candles.

First of all, I bundle up and stay warm. I have flashlights with extra batteries standing by, in case the power goes out. One time, my family and I played board games with a camping battery lantern. It was great fun as we are normally too busy to get together to play board games. We had a blast. A power outage is a little scary and frustrating but all we can do is make the best of it. Best to plan ahead with flashlights and blankets and extra food and water. And having a few board games handy to keep from getting bored, while sitting in the dark does help. :)

That sounds like fun! We didn't have any fun here since it's the second time this happens! I had a lighter on my desk and lighted the candles right away. Then because the heating was off I went under my blanket until the power came back. Now everything is back to normal, I am not scared but I find myself bored if I am alone.

hi besweet thank goodness this does not happen very often here. I am in the USA California and usually when we hav e a power failure its takes so long for them to find the section of the city so if we are upstairs here and its past meal time we just stay here an try to read too but its not easy especially if its at night time. I did use my led flashlight once and read for two hours til the power came back on.My roomie kept asking me when I was going to bed and i told her ten pm. she is a sleep nut. She would like to sleep all day and all night. She is hard to live with for sure.If we are downstairs I just stay there until the power is restored as I use a walker and its almost impossible for me to climb stairs in the dark. the elevators will be off so theres no other way upstairs than to climb up the steep stairs. when the power is restored then I will take the elevator upstairs.
