Pride comes first before downfall! Do you agree?

There were times in my life when I have to argue with my Dad about something that I am fighting for. We've had a great discussion with regards to that matter. At the age of 17 I began exploring life outside my comfort zone. Gigging with my friends all night and coming home in dawn while in the influence of liquor. My dad can't do nothing else than giving me a sermon for breakfast. I am so much stubborn that time that I do not even care about those words his saying, but there is this one phrase from him that I can not forget "Pride comes first before downfall." I was puzzled by the phrase that time yet it engraves into my heart. Can you interpret the meaning please.

In my simplest words: We could be stubborn in obliging to what our elders tell us to do without thinking of the repercussions. And it is sometimes to late to get out of the mess when we realized that everything that they have been telling us is for our own sake.

It's great to know that you have realized how great your dad is. Some children would be forever neglecting all those advice and "little sermons" that they get from their parents. They think that the parents are just not wanting them to enjoy life and be away from their friends. But in reality, everything that a parent tell his children is all for his love to his kids.

Yeah, I am lucky enough that it is not too late for me to show to him how I love him. This phrase will forever be part of my life.

that phrase is about similar to experience is the best teacher,he must have been telling you that if you dont listen to what you are being told then only a lesson would make you understand.at times especially in our teen years we tend to think we know nore than our parents forgetting they also passed that stage and are wiser.

I think so that he is telling that thing. It is only that do not want to listen and understand what he is talking about. I was so stubborn that time that I don't even wanted to hear a little whisper from him.

Hi! My take on it - When you fall, you lose your pride thus pride comes first before downfall. Seldom are people who still have pride even after losing a battle. Losing crashes pride. Have a great day!

We may have our pride, but not to extent of taking advantage of the weaknesses of others. Being on top could not always bring self worth, thus it can pulled you down in some point of your life.

Speaking ones word is ok.. but arguing with parents should not be done.. they are the reason you are here today. Love them, as someday they wont be there for you.

When we are young sometimes we know what is best for us and refuse to listen to our olders, thinking they are only nagging us or trying to tell us how to run our lives, so we often do exactly the opposite of what we are told, to try and outsmart them, it's similar to being obstinate, trouble is when you go your own way and ignore the teachings and warnings of the elders we slip up big time and pay the consequences. But turning it around, after the fall if we can learn our lesson, next time we will avoid the downfall.
