will you offer your seat to someone who looks richer and powerful?

I wonder if your banks work the same way, but in our place, banks have a special place for "preferred clients." When the bank has many people waiting to be served, these "preferred clients" enjoy faster and quicker service because they have a special lane where they do not need to fall in line. Since I am just a small member of this bank, I have to follow the usual procedure. I got my number from the machine and had to wait a long time since the number being served was 78 and my number is 112. So I waited and sat there when I see this powerful-looking woman who also went to the machine to get her number. However, when a teller saw her, she gave a signal for the woman to go to her and right there and then she was served by the bank personnel. I was just looking at all these happening because I thought the woman must be one of their "preferred" clients. While this was going on, since this rich-looking woman was only standing, another woman who was seated, stood up and offered her seat to this rich-looking woman. The rich woman was nice enough to say no, it's okay for her to be standing, but it's the other woman who insisted that she take the seat. So I thought, why did she have to do that? Does this woman offering her seat feel inferior or what? I would never offer my seat to anyone just because she looks powerful and wealthy. So what? I was there ahead of time. What do you think?

Hi Cutie. I would hate to do business with your bank for the first part of your discussion. It would really bother me if the bank where we do business put someone before me because they are wealthy and I am but a poor person! I just wouldn't bank at a business that treated their customers better then someone with a lot of money. As for the second part I would give up my seat if they had health problems, or was disabled in some way, or if they were older then myself. But to give someone my seat just because it was a person that walked into a business don't know. It would all depend on what kind of situation I was in and how I was feeling at the moment.

No way!! Just because she's rich doesn't means she deserves to be higher everywhere, especially in banks or any payment counters where you have to take your place and stand in there waiting for your turn to come. Personally, I never express myself inferior to other persons who are richer or have respects in society, but I do respect them but I don't need to consider always that I'm nether in front of them.

I agree just because they are rich we should not give them our seat. But there are people who expect that to happen.

heck no! they deserve anymore than they already have and if they do...it's not my job to give them anymore favor in life. rich people don't impress me and i will NEVER see myself as inferior to them. not even their money can make me. i would have kept my seat.

Personally, I only offer my seat to oldern people and to pregnant women, to someone who really need it due to his/her health condition. A big bank account is something people can loose very quick, but I don't think that it makes people more important than others. To recieve (more) respect by others shouldn't be based on the bank account, even those rich persons have to gain the respect! Otherwise, we all may change our aspects to recieve quicker and better treatment when we go to the bank. The physical aspect still doesn't mean that you really have that money what many people may presume. I prefer to give my respects to persons like Mother Teresa from Calcutta! Otherwise, by this actitud we can see that the only point a bank is interested in is to recieve more and more money.

Maybe she know that person and respect that woman that is why they are treating her nicely.(^^) When I get to such places I rarely go and get my seat. Usually I am fine with just standing and wait for my turn.(^^)

Same as to what will you do, I will not give my seat to people who looks powerful and rich. On the other hand, I will only offer my seat to someone who looks old, pregnant, ladies and other who are deserving to be offered such.

The only time I would offer my seat to anyone is to those that are infrail, have difficulty in standing or who are old. I was always taught as a child to respect my elders. Or if there was a woman carrying a baby I'd give up my seat, I certainly wouldn't do it for anyone who was or looked richer or more powerful.

I will not really allow to seat that woman before me except for senior citizens or disabling persons.

Well, no. I mean, some of them (the rich and powerful) made calls before going to the bank. So that means they already have reservation before they arrived, knowing the rich and famous they have so many things to do so they don't want to waste their time waiting in line.

Hi, I would never offer my seat just because they look power full or rich. Yes i will definitely see their age. If they cant stand then i will definitely offer them.

I think I wouldn't give my seat to somebody just because they're rich and powerful. They can stand like the rest of us. You're absolutely right. I don't understand people like that woman who gave her the seat. There are a few exceptions that others have mentioned, but being rich and powerful isn't one of them.

If the rich and powerful person is an old lady, I will offer my chair without second thought. I do think we need to be polite, if the person insists to be treated with special attention. Then it will not work for me.

Offering a seat to someone whether rich or poor, young or old is good if it is done with good intention and without selfish motives. I often offered my seat to those who are old already. Have a Blessed Christmas to come!

Base on my experienced, that preferred clients you are referring to and the teller known each other. Because when my Aunt ask me to deposit money on one of the bank I didn't wait, I just go straight to the teller and mentioned my Aunt's name and give her the money and deposit slip. The one who offered her a seat maybe she knows her too that's why. I would never ever offer my seat to anyone as well because she looks wealthy. No way!. I only offer my seat to elderly and someone with a baby. Not to them, we are all same, a bank clients small time or big time no difference.
