Have You Ever Dated Someone with a Different Diet?

As a longtime vegetarian, I have not yet dated another vegetarian or vegan. I simply have not encountered enough yet to be attracted to one. Maybe once I begin networking more with those communities, someone will get my attention. Meanwhile, I have pretty much dated omniovores, people who eat meat and vegetables. But even they are on a variety of diets. Some eat healthier as they grow older, reducing their consumption of starch, fat, flour, sugar, salt and alcohol. Mostly I just accept their diets as they accept and support mine. How about you? Have you ever dated anyone with a different dietary habit than your own? How did you handle or accommodate it? Have your tastes changed? Do you plan to make any changes? Best wishes! :-)

I have never dated someone who has a different choice of food as I am. But if there was, I do not mind trying on new food.

Thanks, Belindahughes! I was brought up by my parents to eat any food that is on the table and not be afraid to taste new food. Actually, I do love trying different kinds of food. My favorite would be Japanese would. But I also love Italian and Mediterranean food. And of course, who wouldn't love Chinese food?!

Oh, I totally agree about Chinese food! It's such an easy way to go veggie. When I'm having a rough time and my mom wants to treat me to a meal, I usually say, "If in doubt, Chinese." Best wishes!

I haven't dated someone who is a vegetarian, but looking forward once someone special to me will come and visit me- soon. I am not a vegetarian but I eat meat very seldom. I am fine with vegetables as I love fresh vegan salad and fruit salad. Let's see once my dear someone arrive soon- but I am sure I won't be having much trouble since I can stand foods without meat and I can prepare and cook all veggie foods.

Good afternoon, jailho. Nice pic. Oh, I love a good salad, too. A late omnivore friend of mine had an incredible recipe for fruit salad, although it wasn't entirely raw. Some ingredients, like frozen strawberries, have to be defrosted. But it is sooo good! I like it over angel food cake. It's wonderful that you are talented in the kitchen. Your special someone should have plenty to look forward to. Best wishes! :-)

I eat no meat, except fish but my wife is a big meat eater. Some of the smells I find a little annoying all the best, urban

Thanks for your generous response, urban. Good to see you again. Glad to know I'm not the only who's been faced with this situation of the smells sometimes making things uncomfortable. Best wishes! :-)

Thanks for responding, MoonGypsy. Nice to see you again so soon. Wow! That's interesting that a woman ate meat that rare. Usually, it's the men, it seems. Glad that experience is in your past now. Best wishes! :-)

If it was really important to you, you would find someone who is indeed a vegetarian that is someone you like enough to date. I am on a diet or a low calorie lifestyle. My husband can eat anything and not put on any weight. So, our meals are different. But we work things out. We make turkey soup but didn't add any starches to it such as rice or potatoes. He eats his turkey soup with a hearty whole grain slice of bread and I skip the bread. That sort of eating works for both of us. We respect each others' eating habits and styles. What are your priorities and what would be a 'deal breaker' for you? If you are willing to accept someone who eats meat while you are a vegetarian, then that is OK with you. With someone else, that may not be acceptable.

In the past, it wasn't so important how my partners ate. I just prepared according to their likes and made my own way alongside. But now, as I do more research on dating sites, I'm finding that vegetarians and vegans tend to be non-smokers and more concerned about animals, exercise and the environment, like I am. So I might be a bit more compatible with them and more likely to make a better match than ever, I hope. Best wishes!
