Depression and suicide over Christmas season

During celebration periods people have the need to connect with other people in love and harmony. The loners/introverts struggle more and I have noticed so many depressed people walking aimlessly on the beach this morning... During this period relationships easily crumble, and people get annoyed and irritated easily. There's quarrels over money, gifts, children and holidays. Am I missing something here?

Mostly it is about money issues , in a materialistic society whenever festive occasion or even personal celebrations are involved, for those who can afford to have a bash and really celebrate without having to worry about cost as a factor, they can truly have fun,as for the rest , it is indeed a burden ,many just save an entire year just to be sure that they can afford a truly special time to celebrate, like Christmas, it will be joyful for many to have enough to buy the presents or throw a party to celebrate ,but to do so, the host spends accumulated money savings over a long period just to spend for that one special moment, but at least the feeling is that it is worth it .Money buying joy.! Human nature , there will always be problems when we allow ourselves to focus on them, each and everyone of us have problems, but the trick is not to let them engulf our state of mind.Although saying so, it is a very hard thing to do to try to enjoy a celebration , whether Christmas or New Year or Birthday party and Marriage celebration. and not think about the problem, forget about it for a brief spell. There is always another day that will come when we can think about how to resolve whatever it is that is weighing so heavily on our minds. How often have we heard the advice, think positive ,be optimistic--da da da , but how many of us actually get inspired by these statements, mostly just taking them as bland meaningless and trite remarks.

Well, everywhere we are told that the Christmas season we should celebrate together. If you're alone it can make you feel depressed. But then again: I have chosen to be alone and when I worked as caregiver I always opted to work during Christmas and be free for new years eve. You have to manage your own life.

I am glad for you franseman, but I am still concerned about those who do not have the 'know-how' to 'do' life.

dee777 Unfortunately you are right..seems the Holidays brings out depression and sadness in many people whose lives have problems and/or have had many challenges. It's sad and I have no idea how we solve this except to remain happy ourselves no matter what and spread hope and calm and peace to all.

That is quite sad. We don't really know their problems. Sometimes there are really depressive thoughts when you think of things that you cannot accept or be with difficult people or probably a victim of calamity. A person really needs God to overcome these things. Have a nice day!

I agree with you advc77. It's so sad when people have not enough trust in other people to go talk about their problems. We do need God.
