Linux or Unix VS Windows

What will you choose linux, unix, or windows? I wanna try the other operating system. But, i'm still afraid about its compatibility.
What's your preference about the operating systems above? Do you have any suggestion about some operating system which is based on linux but have a nice compatibility with some programs of windows and the other operating system?

linux will be best, it have a lot of software similar to windows software but more affective fast and secure .
you see when you need to open pdf in windows you use Adobe Reader which is 37mb in size with alot of feature in linux you use evince which is 600kb with same goal plus faster than speeding calculator.after all you decided what you want.
