I had wanted to have a coulpe of friends I love for a long time at home, but friend`s husband had a nasty foot problem. He has some age problems too and I wanted them both for diner. Fortunatly, a doctor gave him some shoes that solved the problem just in time for a diner where all of us were celebrating something. My friend had her birthday last week, her husband was is the news because of a book about him (he is the best industrial photographer in my country) and they also toasted for my health (the d**n cancer is on remission).
I made all sorts of yummy appetizers and later on a seafood risotto with octopus, shrimps and other fruit de mer.
Do you take time to spend with your friends? Do you prefer to dine out with them or do you make diner at home? Share!

I am so bhappy that yu had a wonderful time celebrating with yur friends. I am sure the food was excellent too. Regretfully, it was good that I wasn't invited as I am deadly allergic to shell fish.
Strangey eenough, I too went out last noght to a ladies group in my town. we meet once every two months and this was our Christmas dinner. I had such a lovely time with my friends and it was fun to dress up. I bought this under eye concealer in the UK whilst there so it filled in the bags under my eyes
I do love to go out to a great restauarant but I also like to cook and invite people to dinner. haven't done that since I came home. Have a wonderful Christmas

Dearest friend: Whe you come for a visit, I can always make you a mushroom or artichoke hearts risotto. I could also make a chicken risotto, but I find that there are better ways to prepare a chicken. You could send me a suitcase full of under eye concealers. I have great need for them although I dream that when I win a lottery (I don`t buy tickets), I`ll run to a plastic surgeon
. I guess this will be my last feast before Christmas, although today I will have a friend over for tea. Merry Christmas to you too.

I love cooking and I like entertaining at home nothing better than having a group of your favourite friends sitting around the table sharing jokes and tales of long ago we can laugh to our heart content and some times even sing or dance! but you can't do that in a restaurant!

I feel that way too. At a restaurant you have to speak in low voices, you can`t laugh that loud and, finally, you feel that once you finish your meal you must be going. And, between us, I think that I can outdo most reataurants with nice and healthy meals. The only kind of food that I like to eat elsewhere is ethnic food because I don`t know how to make it as well.

All of my friends are online, so I can't really have dinner with them--but when my other half and boys come to see me, I make them nice dinners. And I always cook myself something nice every few days, because I enjoy eating good food. I'm glad you had a good dinner with your friends, and it's great that he had his book in the news--hopefully when I finish one of my books, someday, I'll be famous LOL.
I love fish, myself, but am not a fan of shrimp or octopus--I had dogfish for dinner last night, and I am having cod tomorrow night. Tonight was a quiche, with potatoes, broccoli, cheese, sauteed onions, it was great.

He is not a writer, but he is, and has been for decades, a wonderful photographer. Someone wrote a book about him and his work. He is studied here by pro photographers. I am eating light now after the feast
. I hope that you will get your book finished and published. It`s a difficult road, but it pays, at least in fringe benefits.

I have always felt that the best way you can you your time is to share it with the people you love. I have a lot more fun talking to my family or friends than watching TV.

Sounds like a lovely time.
I really don't have close friends in this area. Even if I did, I wouldn't likely have them over to this place. While I'd had visions of this place being "home" and being able to entertain here, that was before I realized what a******s the landlords are; now, I am just biding my time until I can move out of here and, hopefully, into my own home. I hate renting--always have--and this just seals it.

I had come in with a positive attitude, but things have deteriorated pretty quickly. I think that it ultimately comes down to needing to own my own place, because I have a very low threshold for the sort of rubbish that is fairly commonplace when it comes to renting.
We've moved so many times that I am beginning to feel like the main character in that old show Quantam Leap--hoping that each leap will be the leap home.

I`m so sorry that you don`t find a home in the place where you live. I had that problem once, a couple of decades ago, just when my husband fell ill. We lost all we had and we had to sell our house. We rented a house that I always hated. I felt it was a symbol of bad things. We lived there until, with help, we started to build the house where I live now. WE moved when it was half done, but I did not care. It was mine.

Maybe a plant, even in a pot, will help. We need to see beauty , even in a not so nice place. When I was small, we went to the US with a fellowship my father got. The money was not enough to have us 5 for the year. But he did not want to leave us, so we all went. They rented an unclean house and my mom went to work. She painted the house, starting with the bathroom and kitchen, the 2 places she needed more clean. She got furniture from the streets as there was a day where people could throw away their old belongings. She bought material and reupholstered everything. We lived like kings and queens.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well that is absolutely great to hear that u had a great time with your friends and especially when u are meeting them after a long time. Even i fancy such things but have never seen the light of the day as most of them do not find time.
Anyways whatever the place it may be, u will always find solace in spending time with them. If u are moving out with them then u can spend with them gleefully and if spent at home then u can have long funny chats with them.
What say?

From time to time, it is good to take some time out of a busy schedule and spend time with friends. We have done this from time to time as time allows. It is a great way to catch up and just talk. Last time we did it was when actually one of our friends took us out to eat.

I prefer to dine either at my home or at a friend`s home. I feel that we can say what we want and we can stay all we want. At a restaurant there comes a time when you just must leave.

hi marguicha once upon a time I ate out with friends but the recessioon that hit So uthern Calif hare in 2 008 turned our world of living in a two bedroom apt upside down my s on lost his job and c ould not f ind any thing as there were hundreds after any kind of job. WE were made homeless so he got help for out of work men by housing America and I got shunted into this tiresome retirement center. It is not free as some mean mylotter sniped. I pay for it with my social security and SSI Checks each month..so no more e aig out with friends as they seem to be scared to come to a retirement center just for an old friend. and of course here I do not even get to cook. this is not where I had
planned to spend t he rest of my life but I am her alive and kicking and its better than homeless shelters. my son now has an almost fulltime job but no benefits and did get help to get into a section 8 one bedroom apt as it only costs thirty percent of hi swages or 400 dollars which here in super expensive Ca is cheap.
But I do have a lot of mylot friends here which really really helps
'me. as for friends here I have only a couple b ut I still ha ve my longtime
rest friend and thats wonderfl along withe my son. I am s o glad uou got with your dear f riends and that the husband got his feet well with shoers. I need to do that now my self.

missed some darned typos you not uou and shoes not shoers. I also have bad feet and need new orthopedic shoes with brace the problem is the copay now even with a brace and higher tops and custom mad are any shoes worth one
thousand dollars plus my copay of 2 0 percent or some 200 dollars I do not have? they are ugly and not a bit stylish but I cannot walk without the super
expensive brace. a ruptures tendon not diagnosed by the quack doctor and by the time I got to see a foot specialist it was too late to operate on it so am to have to wear them the rest of my life.

If there`s a will, there`s a way. That was taught to me in a storybook of my childhood. If all of you are busy, tell everyone to bring something. It`s the love that counts, not the food.

Marg, hope you had enjoyed your time being spend along with your friends on that day. Indeed, it is a great moment of life if we are able to spend our precious time together with our true friends. Usually, when my friend is coming for a visit, i would be purchasing some take away food for them. because most of the time, i don't have the time to prepare food for them. Because my friend likes to come in a surprise, i mean without informing me in advance. Sometimes, i will dine out with them, if they are in a hurry.

I love to have friends at my home and I invite a lot. But this friend had not come since my birthday in June as her husband was ill. Fortunally he is better now. I made some special things to pamper him and we all had a lot of fun.

forgive me for being blunt , but i noticed that you casually remarked your cancer is on remission ( which is positive news of course, and a very discreet way of acknowledging and sharing with MyLotters that you have the condition )
i wouldn't want to infer too much into your situation unless you wish to share, which is what the discussion threads will be good for. but anyway, the upbeat tone of your post bears reminder to me just how precious time can be when it is shared among people who know you personally and treasure each other's company. The best or worst moments of our lives , has no meaning if we are unable to share it with those that we care about and who care for us, to them , we are not just a name or a statistic but a living breathing soul with personality and feelings just like them .
A mundane thing as a dinner get together is actually very significant event when we have intimate knowledge of those that are present. If we know to treasure those that care for us and vice versa , no excuse can prevent us from enjoying each other's company. What is unsaid in your post but inferred of course is that you immensely enjoy making them happy and in your case, food seems to do the trick, and their companionship is your reward...

I will answer your post in two parts, bryan. First, about my cancer. I have an incurable, yet slow grower, lymphoma. I am 67 years old and I could die of anything before cancer got me and yet I have seen a loved grandson die of cancer at 7 years of age. He taught be to live to the utmost and I refuse to be "a cancer". I am a person with cancer, being treated (with good results) for it. I don`t like to say that I`m "fighting" cancer. I am living my life.
This is where friends, the best ones, come. I have been blessed in my life with wonderful friends. I just answered in this post to another mylotter about my friends.I said: " I am a widow, but I have some very nice friends who have been like a second family to me along these years. Last year, when I had my chemotheraphy, they took turns to be with me. They visit and take me out. True friendship does exist." We both make each other happy. Friendship and care for each other does the trick. Thank you for your response.

I don't think I can prepare such nice dinners at home. First of all, I cook only basic stuff so I am sure my visitors, if ever, won't enjoy eating my food preparation. This is the reason why I don't ordinarily have friends to come to my house to eat.

Once a friend told me that she didn`t invite because she had had some roof problems and the ceiling needed paint. And that, moreover, she did not cook well. I answered that people did not go to other people`s houses to see beautiful furniture. If I wanted to see that, I`d either go to a good store or even to a museum. And if I go to a friend`s house, it`s because I want to see him/her. If the person can`t cook, call for a pizza. If she does not have enough money for a pizza, boil some water and make tea. Seeing friends has to do with love, not with food.
