My sister is going to give birth a baby. She asked me several times to give a beautiful and meaningful name to my nephew or niece, but I really have no idea about this. The family name is Fan in Chinese, then how to come up with the given name. And the problem is that we don't know the gender of the baby.Oh,how to achieve this task? My friends, please give me some suggestions, thank you.

Your family have nice surname - Fan. First avoid names that when combined with Fan bring weird or funny meaning. Look out for combination with 'Fan' that brings happy, beautiful and blessed meaning. I do not know how to read Chinese, therefore can't advise you much. I believe your family and friends will have great suggestion for you. Keep looking and think creatively. Get two sets of names, one for boy and one for girl. then let your sister choose. All the best!

Thank you very much,Iriene.Do you really think Fan is a good surname.Haha,I am so happy to hear that. Now I have got some names for my sister to choose. The names include boy's names, girl's names and even unisex names.Actually,my purpose for choosing a beautiful and meaningful name is to show my love and blessing to my nephew or niece.I hope that she/he will live in a happy family environment and grow up healthily. This is what I really expect.

Many people try to pick names that sound good with the last name. Personally, I don't think names have a specific meaning, though I know many people that do think so. If I were to name someone, I want to make sure that they live up to their name. For example, the name 'Alex' means 'warrior' or 'man's defender'. If s/he turns out the complete opposite, how would people look at them? Now for the naming. I suggest you wait till you find out the gender of the baby before naming them. You don't want to give them a female name then finding out that the baby is a male. If you are so eager to give them a name, though, I think you should give them a unisex name, such as 'Alex' or 'Jess'.

Thank you very much. The reason for my hurry is that my sister wants to talk with the baby. She said that the baby could listen to what she spoke and she wants to call the baby's name for a better fetal education.Anyway, thanks for your advice. Now I think that a unisex name could not be better.
