It was just a local flight to her

When I was 14 years old my friend's aunt visited England from Darwin in Australia.I told her I had been on a trip by plane to Greece. She asked how long the flight had taken. I had told her 3 and a half hours. She had told me for her that was just a local flight. Yes, Australia is a huge country. I live in the UK and it is a small country compared to where she lives.
I so very much wanted to visit other places in the world outside Europe. I visited Tunisia in North Africa and St Lucia in the Caribbean at age 19 years old. I miss those days because age 19 years old was a very exciting time for me. I bought my little cottage in a village at that age too.
Have you managed to travel to a different country and if so how did you get there?
Which age was a very exciting time for you? Why?
Tell me your idea of a short flight and a long haul flight.

The longest flight in distance I took was to Japan, it was the first long haul flight I ever took. I was awestruck looking down at an oil tanker in the sea,
The longest in terms of time was Uganda to Switzerland but that is another story
all the best, urban

The longest flight I have taken I thought was Singapore to London and London to Hong Kong. Those were both non-stop flights of around 14 hours.
In 2011 I flew London to Madrid to Bogota and Cartagena De Indias. That must have been my longest flight duration with a lot of waiting around. That trip involved missed connections, delayed luggage and lost luggage. This year London to Madrid to Buenos Aires was a long trip too.

I'll be flying from here to Bali (about three and half hours). After few days in Bali then I'll get ready for a long haul flight to Los Angeles via Taipei. Just thinking about it now makes me tired already...
I've done that several times before when I was younger. This time though it seems my teenage sons are more excited than I am in taking such long flights...

I guess when I first took the plunge and summoned up the courage to get on a plane, I was 26 at the time, and Cyprus was to be my first ever destination outside the UK, it was a 4 hour flight and I was nervous as hell, I loved the experience of taking off, but the other bits I didn't like, and I hated landing. However the most exciting way of travelling to a different country for me was by train, going through the Channel Tunnel to Bruges then onto Amsterdam, wonderful experience, which I'd like to repeat one day. I couldn't manage a long haul flight to be honest. 4 hours max is all I want to be up in the air.

I suppose in a large country like Australia a three and a half hour flight is probably about the same as a local domestic flight. Also compared to the flight from Australia to England a three and a half hour flight is very short. The longest flight I have ever been on miss from Heathrow to Los Angeles which I think was around 10 hours.Which was a pretty long flight though pretty short in comparison to the flight to Australia. Though I may fly to Australia in a few years as I have always wanted to go and I have some family in Australia.
