I have been to Shanghai, Yiwu and Guangzhou on business plus leisure trips. Being an overseas Chinese, it was very exciting for me to visit China for the first time. We landed in Shanghai Pudong airport and went to Yiwu in a private car. The 5-6 hours trip was exhausting for the length of the time but the road condition was excellent. Yiwu is also very nice. We were very impressed by the availability of the small merchandize range for us to choose from for business. We went to West Lake at Hangzhou on our way back to Shanghai. It was very beautiful and I also went up the Lui Fung Pagoda. Those are the places I read in story books like "The fable of the white snake" and when I really was there myself, it felt pretty unreal. I was like in a dream. I ate the big hairy crab for the first time in the restaurant there. Shanghai is a grand city. It was beautiful but we did not have time to visit more as our plane was leaving the next morning. But we still managed to visit the old street of Chenghuangmiao and had the famous Shanghai small cage bun and soup bun. The trip to Guangzhou was my second visit to China. Sadly we were too busy in our buying of business merchandize and had no time to explore more of the famous Five Rams city. But what I really want to visit is the Palace Museum in Beijing. I would like to spend as much time as I have to look at every one of the items displayed in the great Palace Museum.

Hi Sophie, nice to know that you are in the sourcing line. What countries' buyers you work with the most? Are you more specialized in food or non-food? When we were in Yiwu, we had a guy from Anhui as our guide, while in Guangzhou, we had a lady guide from Sichuan. You must have had a lot of interesting stories about your work. How did you get involved in the sourcing line?

Actually, a few years ago my brother and I went to China for our Christmas holiday. Our sister has lived in Wuhan for years and she loves it there! We went to meet some of her friends and celebrate the holiday with her. She showed us around her city and we also traveled down to Sanya, Hainan. It was beautiful--I had never realized what variety is in China...cities, countryside, beaches, etc. I just wish that I had gotten to see Beijing and all of the famous sites there. I was only there for a day and spent most of it visiting people. Which places would you recommend for a foreign visitor?

My friend took a tour to Beijing some years ago. He's muslim and he was worried that he would not be able to find anything halal on his trip. When he came back, he told me that he did not find any trouble eating as they were plenty halal food.

I remember eating lots of noodles...especially the kind served at Muslim noodle shops! We had the local noodles you described once, but were impressed with the Muslim noodle shops! I love watching them make the noodles and serving it fresh! I hope I get to return soon--I'll let you know when I do!

Hi Sophie. Yes, I visited Shanghai some years ago and the experience will never leave me. I just loved every minute of my time there. I love everything Chinese and have my home decorated with Chinese ornaments. The architecture in China is old and new and ancient and very modern and is beautiful. My favourite language too is Mandarin and I find it a beautiful language to listen to and to learn. I hope I can come back to China one day. I find Chinese people very friendly and accommodating too. Can you also believe my most favourite singer in the world is Vicki Zhao Wei? I just love her voice and music and had the privilege of chatting with her online once. She is lovely! :-)
20 Dec 12
Thanks for your reply Sophie. What is your Chinese name? I am interested to know :-) I have not heard of Shantou City actually but it must be so nice, living near the sea. I always like to learn Mandarin. I was learning the language for about a year but because of some circumstances, I stopped. I wish I had not though because I do love the language. I also learned some Chinese writing but now forget those of course..haha! I would be happy to be your friend too. It's nice to make friends from a country so far away. As for Zhao Wei..yes I know about her husband and daughter. When I chatted with her, we spoke about her lovely daughter. I think I have every song she has sung...lol! I never grow tired of listening to her sing. Have a nice day my friend. :-)

I went to China in 1996. I went to Beijing. It's a very nice city to visit. I went to many temples and palaces and also the Great Wall of China. I was pregnant with my third daughter when I went to China and when we headed up the Great Wall of China, I had difficulty breathing because the air was so thin. The tour guide advised me to stay at the cafe and not to climb up the wall for fear that I might not be able to climb it given my condition. We went in March and the snow was almost all thawed but it was still very cold especially when it's windy. When it's not windy the temperature was quite bearable. It was like being in an air-conditioned room. I hope to visit Beijing again someday. I've also been to Shenzhen when I went to Hong Kong in 1998. I bought some silk there. It's quite a modern city but our group had some trouble going through the immigration when we crossed over to Shenzhen from Hong Kong. But the tour guide took care of everything.

Your experience seems very unforgetable and I think next time when you come to China, you can go with your daughters and share them with your trip before, that is really exciting, and if you are available, you can take a trip to Guangzhou city, which is near Shenzhen and is really a shopping paradise, you can find many wonderful stuffs with cheap price here.Welcome to China, cheers.

Do you mean how you can access the internet when you come to China, you can buy one mobile phone card and access the internet by your mobile phone,or you can buy the 3G card wich can also acces it,when you stay in the hotel or some restaurants, here also provides the wifi, lol,it is free.

I want to see the Great Wall of China and Beijing. The building that they call the "Egg". I want to visit when the weather is cold because it's hot in out country. I visited Japan last August and there is a China town in the middle of TOkyo so I really want to see the whole China and not just the china town. I'm also interested to see the museums and different restaurants because I love chinese food.

It can really get cold there! Some provinces in the middle don't usually have very cold weather, so they don't have a good heating system. Make sure you pack warm clothes for indoors as well if you go there. Although I love the Chinese solution of stylish face masks. I don't know if they are still popular but I still use the ones I got there sometimes when it gets windy here!

China is really huge and I have been to some parts of it only, wasn't able to explore the majority of it. I have been to Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau. Unfortunately I haven't been to Disneyland, hopefully some time soon when my son is a bit older. I have seen the Ocean's Park, Avenue of the Stars, Jewelry City, St. Paul's Cathedral, Venetian Hotel and other places that I don't remember what they are called. I would love to be in Beijing to see The Great Wall of China. I am longing to see it ever since.

I have visited Hong Kong and it felt similar to Singapore. I was able to visit it using my passport. To visit mainland China I would need a visa. I would be keen to travel from Moscow to Beijing via Mongolia on the railway. I am keen to see a panda. I know in China I would buy some costume dolls.

I would love to visit China sometime, but I would definitely stay away from the more populated (and polluted) areas. The places I would visit would definitely be the rural areas around China, as I really enjoy hiking and nature. I would visit the national parks as well.

Yeah, recent years, many view spots were damaged by human, though they are the attractive places with beautiful scenery ,but during the holiday, they will be covered with plastic bags and bottles. But now many people aware that we need to protect the environment and the protection is being implemented, hope we still can enjoy the natural beauty one day. As you like hiking,I think Tiger Liping Gorge would be a good choice but a little hazardous, and there is also the Pudacuo National Park, hope you will like it.

Hi sunshine, China is a really good place to visit, always one of my choices when I plan my trip. I've been to a few cities of China, and Xi'an is really a wonderful place! I had seen the historical places such as Terracotta Museum, the mountains and etc. I do think of travelling in China once more, but not sure which city. Maybe you can suggest some! :D
