When I was working in a hospital, I met a client with 40 chihuahua dogs and she catered them with full care. I can't imagine myself taking good care of these dogs. Do you think it is normal? Can we categorize as hoarding?

Hi Shavkat, it's really amazing to learn that the same person keeping such a great number of chihuahua dogs. I wonder as well how she take full care of them. Taking care of one or two certainly no problem for me but..... May be she has a few initially. Later giving birth to new born puppies again and again, the number of dog increase gradually. She loves all her adorable pets and hates to part with any of them...lol...I suppose Have a nice day

Hopping she really has a dog-sitter to share the tough job. If not, she must be a superwoman How can an ordinary woman take care of so many dogs alone Marry Xmas

Yes, it's normal! I've already met many people with so many pets in their home it honestly looks like a zoo. Heh.

Maybe so, but it's worth the time! When you see your pets being so sweet to you... Well, all the efforts you made for them will be worth it.

40? OMG. I am not a dog person to be honest, and I have enough trouble with neighbours dogs making noise all day and night. They must make a racket, I would hate to be her neighbour, if she has neighbours. Obviously she loves chihuahuas and providing she can give them the full care then there's no harm in it. They do sound like they have a good home, and there are plenty of dogs less fortunate.

The place is very spacious, she is a missionary. But I don't think I can handle that dogs by myself.

Unless the house is dirty and the animals are neglected is not really hoarding. Some people have the money to take care of many animals. Only if they cannot take care of them and things are getting out of hand is considered hoarding. In my opinion is too much responsibility to take care of so many dogs.

Well, it is not clear whether that person possessed for her all 40 dogs, or she had been a dogsitter. But from what I understand she should be a real dog lover that owning forty. Also I like dogs, we family we have only one. However I can not even begin to imagine how a person can keep such a wide array of pets. Anyway, my compliments to this person!

It was her own will to have the 40 dogs. She is not a dog sitter.

Well I don't have any dogs but I must say that I think 40 dogs are just plain out not normal...I might be wrong.. but 40 dogs are just over the top.. I certainly would think some sort of negelect would have taken place with having to care for 40 dogs. I would think she was also certified crazy....LOL...

It is not normal to have that many dogs but it is not impossible as well. I've seen on television before one dog lover who has been featured in a documentary who has more than fifty dogs. Of course she doesn't take care of them all by herself that is why she hired people to help her take care of her dogs. She is wealthy that is why she can afford to have many dogs. She has a huge backyard as well where the dogs stay.

If we have buckets of money, I agree it would not be a dilemma.

I have with me now six dogs and i can tell you it is not easy to handle so many at one time. What more with 40 I think I have no life but only with dogs.

That is a lot of dogs for one house. At least their small dogs. If it's not hoarding, it doesn't miss it by much.

That's too many and it is hard to give them all equal love. I love dogs and I personally care for them, bathe and feed them, so if there are 40 of them that would be impossible. There will be some who will be neglected and that is not good. Dog fights could also happen a lot and that's going to be stressful.

I definitely agree, I believed she has dog-sitter, but the carer is complaining about it.

I think it really depends on if the animals are interfering in ones life activities, if the animals are being cared for and if the person is in violation of any ordinances on the number of animals they can have. It is also important to know where the animals are kept. Animal shelters may have more than 50 animals (as an example) but they wouldn't be considered hoarders because they are providing a service.

The facilities that are equipped for taking good care of them; it is acceptable to render their services. I do think the owner that I am referring to don't have the same facility.

It is beyond normal but it isn't abnormal too... Well, normal pet loving is still depends with the perception of the one who loves what he/she is doing. What matter is the happiness we found with the pet/pets we are taking care of...

If the pet lover really wanted to have the dogs, it is fine. Given that she can provide everything for them.

If you have enough space and the dogs all can enjoy your love and attention, I think its ok. My brother has 3 chihuahuas and the one female is now pregnant. She will give birth in two weeks' time and everyone is so exited!

I would so think it would be considered dog hoarding. I think anything over 10 would be hoarder. I can't imagine having so many dogs to cater to and take care of. It could and can be a costly thing. I mean the food alone could cost hundreds of dolloars or more a month..then the veterinarian cost for each dog..wow.it's unimaginable to me. She seriously much be lonely to want that many dogs around her.

I suppose technically it could be considered hoarding, but I just think owning 40 dogs is insane. Who can afford to take care of 40 dogs properly? I don't care if they are small - the food, the cleaning behind, the grooming, the vet bills... No healthy person has 40 animals in their home.

It can be called as hoarding if the owner prioritizes the dogs over the most important things that he has to attend to in his everyday life.

Well that's a lot to take care of. I think even five is too much. But if that pet owner can give the dogs all there needs there is no problem. But I bet that would be a hard thing to do.

I couldn't imagine unless she has a huge ranch in the middle of no where to set them out to play, run, and take care of their other needs. God bless her.

If somebody have lots of money y think its ok to have a lot of dogs. What is very important is to have a big house and time for all because dogs need a lot of love.
