Finally started a business. Do you have a new destination in life too?

I've been busy preparing for a new business this year. My first goal was to have a website up and running before the first of the year. Although it's still under construction it is there! Next up is more product. Fun stuff to me! To top it off it's a creative craft that boarders art! I am VERY nervous! Maybe I shouldn't be but I'm hoping for enough income to make $1500 a months gross and employ a webmaster well enough to keep him around! So for now I'm using "nice" to offset the lack of pay. I told him to ignore my website until after the holidays. My gift to him was knowledge, knowledge about how to handle a "slum lord" landlord and how to get free legal advice about his rights in several areas. I found out he found it very helpful to both him and his family. I reminded him he is never a victim and that most of the time people try to intimidate you into thinking you are helpless and depend on making you feel like a victim. I told him "you are never a victim!" This Christmas he feels in charge of his life and that of 3 young children! While he feels I gave him the best present he receives this year I feel, that knowledge alone is my present! Is this an omen for my future? What has your experience been when starting a new company?

Well sometimes it's a slow start....so don't be disappointed or give up right away. My daughter has a tendency to do that....but finally this year she had some good sales. I also did. I had alot of orders before the holidays. So be prepared..soometimes is starts out slow and sometimes you have a hard time keeping up! I wish you much luck with your new business!

Oh Jill you're so right! But I don't care. I've received tips about running it and I've also just been observant. Like at craft shows. The people involved keep the same space year after year. Then there's the web site I joined and stayed for about 6 months. They gave me lots of ideas. We humans love consistency so the websites that maintain their original design loose less customers just because of consistency. I will soon be telling everyone here my website name. Who knows?

I have a question for you jill and it has nothing to do with the frigid temps! Do you find people do better as time goes on and show up at the same sale in the same place doing business the same way every time? That's just something I think I'm seeing as I read about other crafters. Thanks bunches!

Yes..once you start building a customer base they come looking for you....this year for me was strange. I wasn't able to go to the holiday craft sale as I was busy that weekend......I got more orders this year then ever before...but now they know how to contact me.....make sure when you so a sale you have a bunch of business cards so they have your number etc.
