I am in the middle, have seen episodes 1 - 14, of watching the second season of Stargate Universe, please don't post any spoilers, and I am more and thinking it should have the sub title of The Perils of Chloe. All the main characters have gone through a lot of things but Chloe seems to have had to endure more than the rest and she was one who wasn't trained to be involved in the Icarus project anyway. Right at the start she lost her father when he sacrificed himself to save everyone else by going on the shuttle and closing the door so the air won't all leak out. Later, not necessarily in order she was abducted by aliens, trapped in caves with a couple of others and left behind for awhile, while on Earth via the stones had to watch her best friend and her boyfriend being together, got shot, was being transformed into an alien until they managed to make them fix her, had two dead women take over her body when the stones lost connection with Earth and probably a lot more that I am not remembering. You may be able to guess that she is my favorite character.

I got into Star SG1 easily from the start. Atlantis was a bit tougher to get into but SGU was the toughest. Just about the time I was getting into Sy Fy cancelled it. They blamed bad ratings but they didn't help the show by changing it's time slot. The actor that played Rush is now on Once Upon a Time.

I agree I found Atlantis hard to follow, especially trying to watch it whilst still watching SG1. SG1 will always be my favourite. I still haven't seen the Ori.

The Ori are an interesting story line. I started watching Stargate Atlantis at some point after it began; not sure which season since the station that was showing reruns here did not always have them in order. I liked it pretty well from the start. I really liked Torri Higgison as Dr. Elizabeth Weir. I felt it really went down hill after she left. I guess Sy Fy felt that SGU couldn't compete with the WWE which we all know is just so science fiction/fantasy. I have been watching Once Upon a Time and seeing that the actor who played Rush on SGU is again doing a great job.
