Yard Sale Shopping...

Money is tight lately so we cannot afford to buy or shop in Malls... good thing there is a yard sale just down the street or my hubby's old home... it is not a typical yard sale where all the items are second hand or used... they actually sell old models but unused shoes, watches, bags,etc... i guess the second hand items are the electronics... I was able to buy shoes made in Korea for 150 php (3.10 usd)... and two pairs of pink hello kitty converse for my daughter and niece for only 200 php (4.10 usd)... such a great buy... i would have bought more items like toys to give away as Christmas gifts and bags too... but i don't have money anymore... Have you tried yard sale shopping?...

I love yard sales! I recently found an ice tea maker identical to one I had bought new for $30 and it was marked $5 at the yard sale of a neighbor who lives on my block. It was brand new in an unopened box. It is a blast riding around in the golf cart looking at the stuff neighbors have for sale in my community's twice a year yard sales.

hi tere. those are indeed great buys. i'm a big fan of yard sales myself. i've been to a couple this past month but i haven't been able to purchase any stuff. i really don't see a point in forcing to make a purchase just so i can buy something on sale. anyway, my family is doing a yard sale today. i got a number of clothes there plus i'm selling two of the gifts i received this past christmas. lol! i'm selling the body shop set that i got from one of my managers and the ucb cold perfume my cousin gave me. i honestly don't have plans of using these gifts. i can use a cheaper body wash/aftershave/perfume and the ucb cold perfume my cousin gave me a couple of months before is still half-full. anyway, hopefully, we get to sell a lot of stuff. i know that whatever i earn from this morning's yard sale, i'll put it in my savings for my planned vacation trip with my daughter next summer. anything the we don't sell, we will most likely donate to the our church or to a charitable institution. that way, someone else will benefit from the stuff. the body shop set and perfume that i got, i'll most likely re-gift if it doesn't sell. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

Wow... you got great stuff this Christmas... and putting them in a yard sale is a good idea... i am planning on having one here at our garage... since we have a lot of stuff... mostly toys that my kids don't play with... others are household items... the extra clothes are usually donated to relatives who live in the provinces and they get them once a year... Thanks for the response...

hi tere. yeah, i can say that i did get good stuff for christmas this year. nothing that is outright impressive but over-all really good gifts for me. the yard sale didn't do too well as it rained a lot in our area last saturday. we might have another yard sale by the second week of january. basically, going to go through the stuff at home that we don't use anymore. hopefully, we sell a lot of stuff and make cash doing so. cheers and happy mylotting tere!!!

I used to go yard sale shopping all the time but don't much any more because I don't really need much. When I do go, I tend to find things I like and bring them home anyway! You can save a lot of money by shopping the yard sales and if you're careful, you can get some real quality items. We only have them during the summer here, when the weather is nice, so there won't be any for a few months yet.

one of my favorite things to do not only does it save money, sometimes you can find unique items, not to mention older items better built than modern crap.

There are times when we need to be patient when going to yard sales... but that is all worth it when we find something valuable... Thanks for the response...

I'm not a fan of buying other peoples stuff but sometimes you can find some interesting things. I like looking around Goodwill for stuff, its fun to find items that you might have forgotten existed and when you find it for cheap its a blast of the past. I would rather sell something at a yard sale than buy it there. Hopefully you found something worth buying.

Yup... i did find items worth buying... and they are brand new... old model shoes but unused... i don't know if the store is a yard sale or a thrift store... but half of the items are used and the other half brand new but very cheap... Thanks for the response...

I also buy things from Yard Sales and flea markets. Some items sold on such are uniquely made and one of a kind if you are lucky you’d get something that is from antique and has a much greater value once pawned or sell to some shops. But the thing I like the most on such haul is their affordability, such sale is pretty much cheap and you just can’t resist buying not one but a lot of items in a cheap price range.

That is one problem with going to yard sales... we tend to buy a lot of stuff because they are just too cheap to pass up... and some items are really quite precious... i would buy the paintings if only i have a place where i could put them... Thanks for the response...

You saved hundreds of money. I love bargain hunting though it is quite difficult to find good items. I have nice bargain finds from the "ukay-ukay". But seldom do I find it.

I have been yard saling for 35 years...having them and going to them! Best way to make a little cash while getting rid of what I don't need as well as buying what I do need for a small price! I know where I am at, couple of people buy deserted storage units and then sell them yard sale style. I have a local thrift store that supports a help mission.. and they have great stuff! And all is donated! I have gotten so many great things for small price..just alst week I got a hope chest.. I have been wanting one for 40 years! It is in perfect condition, but a few scratches on the top (which I will cover with a cushion as it is for sitting on) and it is solid oak with a cedar lineing! $45!! So "shopping" at yard sales or thrift stores...is not junk shopping it is smart shopping!

I agree... thrift store and yard sale shopping is the smart way to go... instead of going to malls where all the profit goes to only a few individuals... with yard sale... both buyer and seller help each other out... that hope crest is one great find... Thanks for the response...

I like to look for books at yard sales. Sometimes, I'll get something that I need, too. At one yard sale, I got a lamp base for around $3 (can't remember for sure). Another yard sale, I got a nice winter coat for around $7. I got the microwave that I have for only $3.50. The price on it was $7. I told the person doing the yard sale that I would give him what I had in my pocket, counted it out to him and he said, "Sold!". I got it 6 or 7 years ago and it still works!!

Seems like we all got great bargain from our yard sale shopping... i myself can't imagine 3 pairs of shoes for less than 10 usd... that amount wouldn't have been enough for one pair if we went to the mall... Thanks for the response...

I've never tried to shop on a yard sale but I always go to tiangges near our place. Most of the items there are branded and very affordable.

Tiangges are also great... but most tend to be located on vacant lots or along hi ways... very dangerous for a lot of buyers... there is one near my area... and i visited it once... but was not able to buy any because they were quite expensive... Thanks for the response...
