The family car broke down yesterday..

My dad's car had a mechanical problem and hwe repaired it last week. I am not good with mechanical terms but I know that the damage cost was around $400. Yesterday I was going to help my brother to pack his stuff because he is moving out of his house and my dad offered to drive me there and combine it with something that he had to do at the city where my brother lives. We started our trip at 10 am and after a few minutes of driving a strange noise came from the engine. My dad recognised what it was and we had to come back.home because he said it was a serious problem. Now the car is at the repair shop again and my dad doesn't have a car to move around the city, I don't mind so much though because I wasn't driving with the car anyway. All that happened because he didn't go for a car service to check it when he had to. He was busy and he meglected it and now he said that he should be more careful next time because the time and cost is higher if you let things get damaged. Do you get your car for service when it is required or you do the extra miles and leave it for some time in the future?
