Windows 8 is the current release of the Windows operating system, produced by Microsoft. I am planning to upgrade my Laptop to Windows 8 but I am not sure if this is a good OS. I like Windows XP and it is very user friendly. Any feedback with this Operating System? What OS are you currently using and are you planning to upgrade to Windows 8?

We have a much older computer and are forced to use Windows XP. It gets frustrating because isn't not supported by Microsoft now. I've not had a chance to try Windows 8 so I really can't make a judgement call.

Support for XP ends on April 8, 2014, so you still have 1½ years. Make sure you have all the service packs. See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/end-support-help

I love Windows XP and I guess this Operating System works better with the new one. I still prefer XP Operating System than the new Windows 7. I am not sure about Windows 8 Operating System. I think this will depend on the model.

Thanks LaDeBoheme-I keep trying to update it, but I am getting error messages. I really want a new computer, but we don't have the money. With that date being so far in the future, I think it wouldn't be a problem to purchase a new one. Thanks!

From what I understand, Windows 8 is geared to the 'touch' generation although it is also easily adaptable to keyboard and mouse. BUT there are a lot of changes to things like the Start screen that users will have to adjust to, especially if they are used to the old Windows interface. I personally have not had an opportunity to see 8 in action and have no immediate plans to upgrade. I went from an old computer with XP to a new computer with 7 which I am quite happy with. Since I don't have a touchscreen monitor, I would not be able to take full advantage of all 8 has to offer, so I figure what's the point of upgrading? Bottom line: if you are used to XP, Windows 8 is gonna be a whole different ballgame!

I totally agree with you. I think the Windows 8 Operating System suits better in touch screen PC or Laptop. Charms bar is a very new feature and I think you will enjoy it more in a touch screen environment. I think I will only upgrade to Windows 8 if I have a touch screen PC or Laptop already.

I use 7, but I have disabled so many features that it basically runs like a streamlined XP. I don't think I'd bother making the upgrade to 8. But if someone has XP and wants an upgrade, might as well go with the latest.

I use Windows XP Operating System on my laptop and Windows 7 on my other laptop. I checked some features of windows 8 and it is really cool. But I guess this will only be compatible or good to touch screen computers.

I would suggest you to read up more on how to use Windows 8. Windows 8's interface is quite different from Windows XP/Vista/7. So you may not be familiar with it if you have been using Windows XP. I personally still use Windows 7 and would only upgrade when most people are comfortable with Windows 8 and there is an abundance of simple tricks on how to use it.

I have read details of Windows 8 and it is a bit different with XP. Yes there are a lot of tricks in Windows 8 and there is no such things as BIOS. Accessing Safe Mode is different as well. I guess its more user friendly in a way.

Actually people will love Windows 8 because it have many features that you'll surely enjoy. At first when I saw it on commercials, and heard peoples comments about it on previews version, to be honest I really got quite dissapointed for what they have done in Windows interface, its not what I expected they'll do but there it is. But as I look closer in the product I think it is fine OS, you can still do everything you're doing from the old versions, plus the OS will offer you a new sets of applications in the app store that is free, believe me you'll enjoy it, there's also free games(not solitaire!!!). They made this OS for touch and also for keyboard and mouse function, so there's no problem if you will launch an apps in this OS, it still will function but a little bit difficult since its design for touch, example for this is the guitar instrument... For me, since I experienced this OS, I can say that I'm not dissapointed anymore because I can use now the functions and some of the shortcuts in this OS, not that big modifications its just they add this metro and many apps from the store (just like in the ubuntu), still like 7, but this OS is smoother and faster, just see it yourself.

I am still using Windows 7 and do not plan to switch to Windows 8 any time soon. Windows 7 still fits my needs and I don't see an incentive for me to switch anyway. For me, I have been actually less focused on Windows operating systems and been transitioning more towards using Linux operating systems. However, there are so many flavors of Linux. Still unsure of which Linux OS will work as my primary operating system.

I have win 7 and love it. I'm not trying win 8 until they have all the problems out of it and it is more user friendly. I never get an OS until it's been out for some time and enough people have tried it and review it.

now i didn't upgrade to windows 8 so i think if you have 7 in many cases you can decide to stay like that also because windows 8 is new and designed for pc which enables otuch features..infact the great news is about the mtro interface...so may be you can wait a bit to understand if the new os is for you or not..probably if you will uy a new pc there will be windows 8 if not you can decide depending from your pc and even normal use with your pc/laptop!!

Hi chiwasaki, Often I've seen people get impressed with a new release of any product and especially in case of operating system, every new release looks much better as compared to the interface. However, initial release always has glitches that you won't realize until you use it and also most of the existing software programs will not be compatible with the new operating system. I personally believe that one should always wait for the operating system until it's service pack 1 is released, that's where all the common issues of the operating system is taken care. That's how I think, I may be wrong.

I'm using Windows 7 right now. I tried Windows XP for a few months and it's good but I think Win7 is better. My friend is using Windows 8 and I checked and there is almost no difference except for the new feature which is like a design for tablets. I can't really explain it well here but I think I'm gonna stick with my Windows 7 for now.

You can get a free trial at microsoft.com. If you thin it's user friendly then you can keep it. But i think it became easier to use. Also some software won't work on windows 8. Merry Christmas!
