I was out today and happened to bump into a couple who is looking at moving to this area. They were curious about the synagogue and what the Jewish community is like in this area, so I took the chance to fill them in on all of the good things about the temple and even offered up a couple of recommendations on good local restaurants.
Do you ever find yourself welcoming people to your community? Are you likely to speak up when someone is inquiring about your area and/or faith community?
I was happy to be able to fill the people in a bit on the faith community here. They seem like a lovely couple, and I would love to see them join our shul.

It is good to reach out to fellow Jews and help them feel welcome in a new community. Where I live, the Synagogues are few and far between. There really are not that many Jews in our county, so it is very important for all of us to stick together and welcome new arrivals and make them feel at home.

I know how important it is for a community in general to seem welcoming, and it is even more so when it is one's religious community. I've seen welcoming places as well as ones that would give a cold shoulder. I want for my synagogue to be a welcoming one.
