My Problem

I love hamsters, and I want to purchase a little colony, so that they could reproduce. I can't stand losing my pets, and, unfortunately, if you have hamsters, it seems that you're bound to lose the often because they don't live for a long time.
The ones I have been interested in are the Siberian dwarf-hamsters. They're tiny and extremely cute, but their life expectancy if about 2-3 years. Is there a way to increase hamsters' life-span? Any particular vitamin-food that would help? Or other supplements? What are the types of the longer-living hamsters (I'd be interested in those)?

Most hamsters life average is 2 -3 years some die before, some live a little longer. I do give my guinea pigs, and rabbits vitamins and I would assume that they have them for hamsters as well. But I dont know if this extenses the life span. Living a stress free environment, and giving love and attention will extend their life span.

Hello there ivan.
I guess hamsters life is really just two to three years. :( In that case, there will be no vitamins nor supplements to extend its life.
My daughter just bought hamsters too. I think they are cute. They are not noisy as the dogs nor they are not attention seeker like our cat.
. Well, I love having pets at home as long as they are tamed.
I can't say much. I just wish your hamsters be healthy and enjoy them while you can.
Merry Christmas!
