My daughter loved the Christmas present I gave her.

I have told you that I had offered my daughter that my present to her and her family would be to take care of the food on Christmas eve. She was very tired with no help at all, a difficult job (she is a judge) and a young toddler. She gave me the money for the ingredients but I did everything else. It wasn`t easy as there were many people, but I did it with love. At the last minute, my daughter called me tellinmg me that hat MIL and her SIL with her BF were also coming. They do nothing but sit
. So I made more salads. My eldest granddaughter helped me a lot.
My daughter was beyond words with all the good things on the table. She said it was the nicest gift I`d ever given her. It`s not true, you know. I could have reminder her of some awesome toys my husband and I gave her many Christmas ago
But I know that past a certain age, we don`t expect a BIG present. The children have the best ones. I did not spend more that $5 in each present for my grandkids, but pampered my daughters.

That was a very nice gift that you gave your daughter. While you think of the many toys you gave to her over the years, giving of yourself far outshines such things.
It is not generally the material things that stand out to us but, rather, experiences. Special moments shine far more brightly...

Many of the toys they had were made by my husband, so they also were an act of love.

You have just given a priceless gift marguicha and I admire you for that. I agree with your daughter, not those material things are the best gift but the time and effort you had given to her on that special occasion.
Happy New Year! More blessings to come!

Thank you, Aries. I was more than paid though. It gave me a sense of belonging that I didn`t have for many years, since Christmas parties stopped being held at my house.

It is great that your daughter really appreciated what you did for her this year. I know that you gave her a lot of great toys when she was younger for Christmas, but I don't think that she is wrong in saying that this is the best Christmas that she has ever had.
You see, as a mother I think that there are times that I don't have the time to enjoy the holidays with my children at all and I'm sure that her being able to relax for the holiday was something that was great for her because she will be able to have more memories of her child this Christmas because life wasn't moving so fast for her this year.

I know, friend. Now she is a mother, and a hard working mother too. So this help meant having a special Christmas.

Thank you very much, namiya. And I bet that even if your mother can`t travel, she would enjoy a letter from you telling her how you remember all the time you had her with you and how much you miss her.

I know they love me. But mothers and daughters always have this love-hate affair. A couple of weeks ago, my daughter, on one of those intimate conversations that I cherish so much, told me that she hated discovering that she said the same things I did to her own eldest daughter. I explained her not to worry, thatr it was all part of the normal mom-daughter role. It was always different with my husband because he was daddy dear, the man of their lives. I understood that too, because my relation with my own father was always absolute perfect and not so much with my mom.

I don`t think my daughters feel blessed by having me as a mom. I`m not the mom of the year. I yell, I don`t mind my business as I should, I tend to tell them what they should do even if they are over 40. I`m a well meaning ol` witch, I guess.

I had a lovely Chrsistmas eve and Sofìa, age 2, stayed up until about 12 PM. She was pure bliss with all her toys. I also had my share of presents. I think that the best one was the happiness I saw in my daughter`s eyes when I started placing everything at the table.

I'm sure your daughter really appreciated you doing all that cooking so she didnt have to. No one ever asks me what I need or want for Christmas they just buy me whatever is on sale. I really would like an air pump to air up my tires on my van. The tires are so low it probably isnt good to keep driving around on them.

I suggested her if she wanted that after she told me how tired she was and how her back hurt. She accepted before I ended up the sentence

I made all of them happy as they all liked my meal. But my daughter was the happiest by far as she would have had to make it if I hadn`t volunteered.

Your daughter gave you the best gift she could possibly have given you. . .her appreciation. As for the great toys many years ago, see how much impact they had? LOL not nearly as much as the time and effort you put in for the meal. I'm glad she appreciated your efforts and you had a good Christmas eve.

I feel that way too. I think that my daughters only remember the gifts we made for them with our own hands. The gifts we bought were quickly forgotten.

I rested yesterday, Jo. And today I am going to my daughter`s house for lunch and then I`ll bring Vicente to sleep over. I will take care of him on Wednesdays until Thursdays until my daughter has her vacations in February. I will get kid`s movies at the blockbuster.

I will remember it in a special way all my life. My daughter told me yesterday that we were having so much fun with each other lately. I loved to hear that
. And last night, while I was fighting with Vicente (one of her sone that I have overnight once a week), she called me and offered to knitt a sweater for me. Now that`s a mayor offering as I`m not petite size

This was a wonderful gift that you gave her and she will always remember it. Although she may ask you to do it again next year! I cooked for my family but my daughter prepared a few dishes that she does so well and my son seasoned a huge piece of roasting pork that I pot roasted for 5 hours - it was so good. He blended all the ingredients and stuffed the pork and it marinated for two days before it was cooked. I also served ham and a big roasted and stuffed chicken as my kids are not fond of turkey. Also served candied sweet potatoes, home made mac and cheese (supposed to be for kids but the adults went crazy over it) grated carrots salad with raisins and orange juice, green beans, salad, and potato salad. I think that this was it. Dessert was Christmas pudding, home made apple pie with cream and ice cream, lemon squares, and wicked cream filled miniature cup cakes.

You had an awesome Christmas menu, friend! I agree with you that she might ask me to make Christmas diner again next year. But we`ll see about that when the time comes. I wasn`t even sure last year that I would be around this Christmas. But my chemo was wonderful and I feel that I have extra time to do some meaningful things

The $5 gifts were for my grandchildren. My present for my daughter (a 46 year old woman) was to make diner for 16 people.
