School : The most dangerous place on earth.

Philippines
December 25, 2012 6:25pm CST
After the horrific shooting spree at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Connecticut last December 14 another terrifying Knife attack incident took place at Chenpeng Village Primary school in China on Christmas eve, December 24th.Gone are the days, where parents could live their kids in schools or Dare care centers with peace of mind while busy at their workplaces. In my country,Philippines, although there has not been any reports (yet) of massive killings in Primary schools, there have been reports of violence such as student killing another student by gun or university students killed in fraternity hazings. These violent incidents make me think, "Will my future kids be safe in school?"Even then lives of teachers, themselves are in threat in schools and universities.

School should ask good police visibility program from the government. With police trained to watch suspicious characters, crimes within school premises will surely lessen. With a good police program the the safety of students will be assured.

I couldn't agree more! There should be police officers assigned in every school. When I was in highschool, a student from the lower batch was kidnapped. The culprits ran away so swiftly because there was no security guard at the parking lot entrance. The school administrators and staff should also be vigilant and observe the behaviors of the students in their schools.

To be honest with you, I am so happy I am homeschooling my two pre-teens. Although, we haven't had any shootings or violence in our school system, who's to say it couldn't happen? I just feel safer with my kids at home with me. There are just way to many of these random shootings taking place. I started homeschooling my kids last year because of bullying and food reasons (I don't want my kids eating the slop the schools want to call food) and I think I made the right decision for me and my family. I heard about the knife incident in china as well, didn't they take place around the same time? It really is sad. You are right though, even teachers in public school systems could be afraid to go to work. I think it's society though, these random shootings can happen anywhere and in any place of employment.

There must be a security guard in school, to protect the kids from being harm and violated. If there is a guard it will also prevent those criminals, to enter the premises. Here in our country, adult or teenagers not allow inside the school. Even those out of school youth, or anyone that even parents not stay inside the school, only teacher and authorize personnel stay inside. Parents, are allowed only to enter the school, when there is a party or meetings.

I believe all schools have security guards especially universities.Sometimes, the culprit or perpetrator is also a student from the school. When a student behaves violently inside the classroom it becomes uncontrollable. The Normal ratio of teacher and student is 1 : 35 and sometimes, 1:70 in public schools. Can you imagine how difficult it is for the teacher to protect each of the students if such incident like what happened in Connecticut take place?

I would often say that even though we always try to keep ourselves and the rest of the family safe, still we are not sure what else could happen. All we are to do is pray that we be spared from incidents as such.

There is a threat of danger every where we go;you're right.Sad to say, when incidents like posted above happen in school, the children become helpless prey because they do not know how to protect themselves.

Yes after that event every parents will definitely think like that. After that event I am really scared to send my son to school. So what can be done to prevent such an unfortunate event ?? In my opinion school should take major steps for that.Apart from only educating them they should concentrate more on their security.Unknown and strangers shouldn't be allowed inside without proper verification. If kids in a school of America is not safe, forget about Indian school.

You have similar incidents like this in Indian schools? It has been reported at CNN news this morning that every twenty-two minutes one woman gets raped in India. In my country, rape is often in the news headlines. What a scary place we live in!

This is the media fault, they over exploited the original incident. According to a psychologist, if they put too much focus on an incident (say the killer's name, bodycount, when and where, how, etc) then there will be copycaps all over the world. This happened some years ago with a killer who quoted a Stephen King line from a book, 5 days later about 3 more incidents, all of the culprits quoted Stephen King.

That makes sense. The media should not sensationalize their reports.

In fact today nowhere can be safe comepletly. There are still some crazy people in the world. Once they go crazy, then there will be the victims. But there will be more victims in the school because the children are too little to protect themselves.

Security guards must be more vigilant in schools and there must be teacher aides who would help in looking out of the children

That could mean it can really happen in schools. It is better to tighten the security in schools just like in a bank. It's a rare case though.

There should be lectures teaching students about violence and the dangerous of it.

In my opinion, it is an isolated cases. School is still a safe place for pupils or students. They just need to have a tight security and bear in mind the safety within their vicinity.

It is an isolated case, I do think that not all school are dangerous. We just need to tighten the security and make precautions. Great day!

Schools are pretty safe here in mexico. Especially for the kids under 14 here. All schools for them have fences and gates. You have to ask permission to enter them. I feel safe with them that way here. Have a great day there. Se eya here soon. :)

Really sad to hear students been targeted. What worse can it get. Now the parents will have to think several times every day before sending their child to the school but i still don't think that it is yet the most dangerous place on earth. There are many areas were bomb blasts, firing is a daily rotine and several innocent pedistrians are killed every day. These are the most dangerous places. Hope every thing gets well soon and this world becomes a peaceful place to live in.

We can take school as a small society, everything happens in our society will happens in school as well, and if we compare with the large quantity number of schools these bad thing actually do not take up large proportion. But any way,it is really a emergency to enhance the security of school.

When I heard about this news I got scared too even though I live far and there's no such massacre happenings here, I mean in school, no report like that happens. My baby girl is only 1 year old and yet I have fears in me about such things. My only hope that it won't happen to wherever my kids would go to is PRAYER. I will definitely pray earnestly that it won't happen.
