What would you do if someone broke in , in the middle of the night?

I was watching this new show I love, called Panic 9-1-1. It's real 9-1-1 calls, and more or less puts you at the edge of your seat going what happened. This one lady lived out in the country (I can't remember where exactly), the police were 30 minutes away. A man on drugs was trying to break into her house, and she had called the police, but the man had broken a window and was climbing in. What would you do? If the police were awhile's away, and you were sitting there while someone was breaking in? In the US, you can shoot someone who is breaking into your house (if they can prove self defense or protecting your property), and not be charged. Whereas in Canada you will be charged (no matter if its self defense). Now I wouldnt care of the law, since I dont have a gun, I would be going for a knife, you would get a lesser sentence.

Stay calm and neutralize the threat, not in a "kill him" manner but in a "immobilize him". If you go with a weapon (fire or sharp) aim at non-vital places like the limbs.

You are very right, but many who are in a panic don't think of that they just go for anything.

I would let my dogs have a field day with the person... And hope to God the person does not shoot them because that would break my heart a lot! If plan A does not work I would grab the closest thing that would hurt like H*ll to beat them with. Lol.

Back in the mid 60s, a young fellow broke into my grandmother's house. He had been partying and thought he was on his own street. He broke the window in the door to get in. My grandmother called my aunt and uncle down the street and by the time they got there, my grandmother (maybe 4'10" in heels) was shaking her finger at him saying, "You clean up! You clean up!" (Apparently, he threw up.) He came back the next day with his sister to apologize and pay for the damage.

While he is still trying to break the window I would already start pounding his head with something hard. I won't wait for him to come in and hurt me. If I have boiling water at that time then I am going to go and throw it at him, I am going to daze him by throwing anything at him while at the same time scaring him with my screams while doing all these.

Hard to say.. but I think I would grab what is nearby and beat the buglar down. I would not let anyone come into my house, I have children sleeping here as well. Probably I would go to jail since that is how it works in my country. The criminal goes out for free and plays the victim, the victim (me in this case) is the bad guy because I deared to beat down someone.

If someone is breaking into your house, and attack you, you would casually walk, and shut the power off and let them be to steal what they want, and kill you.

I have a metal bar that is a piece of my workout equipment. I would probably grab that and try to hit him on the head. Hopefully I know my place well enough that I might have an advantage in the dark. If it were daylight, I would have to try a little more stealth. In either case I would hope there wasn't more than one.

I would call the police. I have never( and will not) live in rural areas. I tend to think living in rural area is not as safe as city environment as there are much lesser people around. If one's house is being intruded, no neighbours help them call the police and it amy take the police longer to reach the area. Just my opinion. I think the lady in the case stated above could hide somewhere in the house before the arrival of the police.

Scary, is it not? I would stand by the nearest exit so that the moment he steps in I dash out in the dark to seek help.
