A balmy 68

No, it is not 68 degrees here in the region. Actually, we haven't seen that particular temperature in a bit, and we aren't likely to see it again for a while. It is now very decidedly wintertime.
What I am talking about, though, is the temperature at which I am keeping our thermostats set. With the exception of the bedroom, I have set everything to 68 and have had it there for the past several weeks. My hope is that it is a low enough temperature that this electric heat of ours does not cause us a high electric bill again.
I know that there are more things that could--and should--be done in terms of winterizing this place. Unfortunately, we simply have not gotten to some of them. Others, we simply cannot or will not do since this is a rental.
What temperature have you been keeping your thermostat at? Have you gone through your home and taken steps to better winterize your place?

Oh, this post was a while ago. It was when we were in a terrible rental in New England-- complete with the freezing winter temperatures. The place was drafty, noisy, and had plenty of sketchy people prowling about.

@RebeccasFarm With us, we wanted to be in the area. Then, we developed reasons to need to be in the area. Ultimately, though, it wasn't a well thought out choice since the rental market in that area is horrible, and we weren't in the position to get on the property ladder at that point.

I don't pay the heating here but I used to have to seal up my windows with plastic to keep the place warm in one of my other houses.

I've considered doing that. Of course, if I did it, the task would be left solely to me, because my boyfriend would not be able to figure out how to do such a thing. He is not handy in the least.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well a temperature of 68 sounds really scary and i cannot expect a temperature of 68 especially during the summer. I think we have to winterize our rooms properly so that we can get rid of the chillness and there are many ways to do it. i have been using room heater which has been working pretty well for me.
What say?

Here the outdoor temperatures are often below freezing these days. I live in a cold region in the U.S.
When the temperatures outside were in the 60s, there were a lot of people still wearing shorts. Even when we hit 50s, I saw some people (mostly teens and young twentysomethings) walking around in shorts.
Here 68 degrees actually isn't a bad temp. I am, however, contemplating turning that back a few more degrees if the electric bill looks as bad as the last one.
