Will you feed your toddler with french fries?

As I was having a junk food lunch (pizza) yesterday in a food court in one of the shopping malls in the city where I live, there was a family, locals, in front of me having their Mc Donalds meal. They have two boys, one at the age of five maybe and one toddler between 2-3 years of age. The toddler got my attention as he was smiling at me when I bite my pizza and I smile back at him. The parents are eating and occasionally the mom, feeding her toddler with french fries. I love Mc Donalds french fries, its my favorite, but I was telling myself that if I were the mom, I will not feed my toddler with this junk food for reasons that the child needs healthy foods and once he enjoyed it, he would definitely ask for it....always.

I would as a treat, but that would be all because I would have fed the healthy food at home and unless I had a package of healthy food with me, it would not be right to eat the Mac and fries and not give the child at least a taste. But then we did have children who are now grown. The thing s that when they were young, the only places w could go to were MacDonalds, etc. I know that most of my friends take along a bowl of Cheerios.

True, it is turning into a Nanny State when people come up to a mother feeding her child French Fries and say, "you should not do that." Besides she probably has healthy food at home and for her toddler this is a treat.

Yeah, I agree with you, we could let them have the taste of it, but for a toddler, I don't think they distinguish the difference. The 5 year old and up could appreciate it and the mom should see to it that these foods are taken very minimal and healthy foods are always available at home.

I see nothing wrong with it if you only give the toddler french fries once in awhile. I hope the mom gives the toddler plenty of fruits and veggies at home and cooks healthy meals. I have had too many bad food choices in my life and I am obese but have lost 35-40 pounds and need to lose more weight.

Once in a while may not be harmful but if I am mom. what i am afraid is that it might become habitual and the toddler might ask for it once he/she liked it. To be on a safer side, I will not give my kid junk food. I have a friend who went to her home country for two months and ate only healthy foods, she lost weight! You can try doing that, obesity is a health condition that should not be ignored and take for granted.

I wouldn't eat anything from McDonald's or its ilk, so, of course, I would not feed such stuff to any child of mine. My children will know from an early age what real food is; they won't be raised on rubbish faux food.

That entails strong discipline, myself being a grown up adult sometimes crave for junk foods but I ensure that I take it very seldom. Normally it happened when the time and stress and from work would not allow me to prepare my own food. Keep it and I hope that other moms would do the same thing to their children.

hi A mom feeding french fries to a toddler hmm i dont think this is good and i will not do that already we are facing so many problems with this food and why unnecessarily pushing the little ones to such habits so early . Many mom's are very conscious about what food they give to their children i dont know why the women was like that.Infact many mom's are taking care to not to give such foods to children as per the latest health issues. Hope this mom learns too.

I really felt sad for both the kid and the mom, could be the mom doesn't know the risk of french fries especially for her young ones and the kid might get used to it and develop that habit. I just hope that they don't do it often.

I am not a mom but I will not feed my toddler with this kind of food if in the future I become a mom. I like french fries as well but I eat on a moderate level. Mom's should train their children to eat healthy foods and kids really need healthy foods for them to develop a good healthy body and mind.

I also love french fries especially Mc Donalds :) but I don't eat frequently, just very seldom as I know it is not healthy. And if I have kids that age, I will not let them to taste junk foods. :)
