So I have come down with yet another cold. I just got done being sick after having a cold that lasted for 2 weeks. But I was around my nieces and nephew for christmas and they were both sick with colds and now I finally caught it. I have a severely bad sore throat it hurts to swallow and I can't stop coughing. It sucked at work today because I kept having coughing attacks and those are annoying, especially when your in the middle of taking care of a patient. I hope this cold is gone by new years eve as I have plans that night. Do you guys get sick easily and does it last long? I hope this one does not last 2 weeks.

This means that your immune system is a little weaker during winter time. I sometimes face this situation too. Let me tell you a secret: an untreated flu lasts a week while a treated one lasts 7 days. My little secret in the battle with the cold is LEMON. Lemon tea more exactly, but not a commercial one. Just slice a lemon and boil it well. Then drink the tea and eat the lemon if you can. Also drink a lot of fresh squashed lemon and orange juice. Aspirin is also great.

I heard orange juice is great when you have a cold but unfortunately I don't have any. I been drinking hot cocoa and it's been helping my throat, I'm not a tea person. Thanks for the tip

I found something recently that really helps when I have a sore throat and/or sore ears along with sneezing or coughing. Get some fresh ginger root and cut a slice about the size of a quarter. Pour boiling water over the ginger and let sit for fiv minutes, then add honey to sweeten and lemon if you like it. The counter-irritant effect of the ginger eases the pain of mucous membranes much better than menthol or menthol-eucalyptus cough drops. The ginger tea can also be taken with other treatments and medications without interfering with their action, and it helps to settle the nausea I sometimes get with 'flu or lots of phlegm.

Thanks I have heard about this but never gave a thought to try it. Next time I go to the store which will probably be tomorrow I will have to look for some.

Lucky for me, I have not had a cold in a long time now. I think a lot of my Luck is with getting the hyperbaric oxygen treatments this has helped my imune system to fight off this. My husband lost his voice for like 2-3 days but does not have a cold. Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, I do and that's why I awould avoid them at all costs. I think it's just rude to bring yourself, or children sick to a family function. My cousins use to do that we use to get up and leave. I can;t remember the number of times I ended up in the hospital because of my cousins simple cold. Even now if someone is sick and *forgets* to tell me I will just walked off, and go home.

I think you need to take more exercise to strength your body. Or you can keep a healthy diet to prevent a cold. It really helps.

Some peoples are very very susceptible to cold and easily get affected by that.It is mainly caused by virus,so if you come across people affected by cold you may easily get affected by that.If you are having sore throat gargle with warm salt water for at least 5 min,it really helps.Chewing ginger slice also helps to reduce sore throat associated with cold.

There is a trick that can kick your system into recovery mode...Just before you go to bed, take a very hot shower and then turn it to cold just for a few moments. Then hop into bed and stay there. This technique makes your body produce many times more white blood cells which is the best thing for fighting infections of any kind. Do this every night until you are well. You should also do it everytime you are exposed to folks that are sick...
