I was so excited about the thought of minimizing rice intake, because my weight loss has started to plateau and I thought it's time to focus on dieting, too. So, today, I didn't have any rice at all, and I started the day with a cup of oatmeal with chocomilk powder for energy. Then for lunch, I ate pancakes with sausage, which my husband bought for me, supposedly for breakfast. I also ate a few more bread pieces with butter and orange juice for an afternoon snack. And, for dinner, I had more bread to go with the noodle.

Yes, that's a lot of carbs! But it all sounds so good! Can I come to your house for dinner? I love rice. I eat it almost every day. I could eat rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You did good staying away from it. But everything else you ate probably didn't help. That's okay, you have a whole new year coming up to work on your weight loss plan. I mostly drink a lot of water and eat apples and pink grapefruit when I want to lose weight. It helps a lot. Mmmm, pancakes and sausage.

Yeah, I like apples, too. However, apples cost so much here most of the time. Most fruits are expensive here in our area, so we often just drop them from the grocery list.

Good for you. What a shame, because our country produces a lot of tropical fruits, but the best ones are shipped to other countries to sell more.

Fruit is not too expensive here. But I live in the Northeast (US) and there are apple orchards everywhere!

Well dieting is for amateur, if you want to lose weight. then i suggest that eat normal and do little exercise. It would help you. I am no doctor but this helped my friend so it could help you also. Oat meals sounds good too. Well just eat what you want but also exercise for extra fat. Good wishes!

What do you mean, "dieting is for amateur?" I'm 140lbs at 5'2" in height. So, I'm still over my normal weight range. If I want to be fit and healthy, then I really have to work on my daily exercise and diet needs, don't I? How is eating normally going to help in losing weight? Can you tell me more about your idea.

Nope, no offense taken. But, I do want to hear more about your idea on how eating just normally could help lose weight. So, now, I get your point more clearly. I think that's part of what I'm currently doing. I eat when I'm hungry and not minding the nutritional components of the food, and then I exercise to flush away the fats. But, as I've earlier explained, exercising can only get you to a certain point of weight loss, then the momentum stops or drastically decreases. So, we need to also control our eating habits to keep up with the weight loss program.

Well it seems that you got offended. Accept ma apology miss. Nothing intentionally for you dear. Dieting has many side effects and someone trying to lose weight for first time don't know this that is the reason I told dieting is more amateurs. See if you eat 2 bowls of rice daily for now and do 1 hour of exercise, then i suggest you to eat 2 bowls of rice and do 1 and half hour of exercise. You would end up losing weight. Do such exercise which focuses on your concerned body part. Like do ab mats for tummy, do stretching basics. Breathing yoga helps a lot. Jog in a pollution free environment. Once again dear, sowi from heart. Nothing to make you sad or angry or offensive. Once again good luck for your routine of weight loss and a very happy new year to you. Cheers!

I am glad too that I only have one more party to attend and no more. After that I can focus on losing weight again.

That's right. New Year party or gathering would be the last of the series. Then we can double time on our diet and exercise.

You eat a lot of carbohydrates and with a lot of calories. Where are the vitamins and minerals and all the antioxidants that you need ? Pancakes don't have all of those. Stay away from the butter. The butter is pure fat and it can accumulate in your blood system. You can do better, Jureathome, everyone with an internet connection and internet access can read useful information about the things he eat. A veteran Mylotter like you can be active in discussions about health and healthy food. All the nutrients are good, but, we have to take them in certain amounts. Not too much and not too less.

Oh well, all that carb was just for that day. I lost it, at the sight of the very inviting pancakes with butter and maple syrup. But, I will be more conscious of what I eat. Unfortunately, I'm not very much in to health discussions. But, I learn from real discussions with family and friends.

maybe you can change to wheat bread or whole grain bread, more fruits and veggies, and maybe saging na saba, sweet potato (kamote) and other root crops (boiled or steamed, not fried and without sugar).

That's a good tip. The sad thing is, I have to drive to the shop to buy those specialty breads. The easiest bread products to get early in the morning are the ones that bring some carb.

Eating no rice at all is not good. It is not bad to eat plenty in the morning and eat moderate at lunch then eat only fruits or vegetables at dinner. That is the best effective diet for me. As the saying goes, "Eat like a King at breakfast, eat like a queen at lunch and eat like a beggar at dinner". Remember that you should fill in your stomach in the morning. That is your very source of energy for the entire day. Eating less or nothing in the morning will let you feel unwell.

That sounds sensible. Right now, I eat very minimal for breakfast, then have brunch or early lunch which is just moderate. Then, it's during dinner where I have my biggest meal. So, I think that won't work because our body system slows down when we sleep, and that means breakdown of fats may not happen...tsk tsk tsk

Well, I would not say you stopped eating carbs, dear. Oatmeal and pankcakes are carbs. Except that you also put carbs and fat over your carbs on your pancakes. Then it is the bread. AND the noodles! You know, I have lied to myself like that all this last year so I know. This changing from one carb to another will not help you (or me). I am going to a nutritiologist in February. I really want to slim down. And diet means a small amount of carbs and fat.

I know that, and I just laughed at myself after realizing I even got more carb than I wanted to eliminate. It was impulsive eating for me, because I only planned to have oatmeal, but then my husband brought pancakes for me and I missed eating those.

I am kind of confused about the diet you have. Is it to gain weight or to lose weight? Since I think what you all ate will make you gain a lot. I like to eat rice btw, don't care if it's only plain rice, day after day afer day but even with that I already gain a lot of weight :-(

Trying to lose weight, of course. That's why I'm worried because I thought I was doing something to help with the program by minimizing rice, and yet, I was eating more carb.

I eat rive everyday here in Mexico. We eat rice and beans almost every day here. Beans are good for fiber. But you are right rice is real bad for the starches.

I also ate a lot on Christmas eve and Christmas day. And, tomorrow comes New Year's eve, which means more feasting. So, in between and right after New Year's, I will double time on dieting and exercising.
