Beans and more beans! I'm cooking the last if them. I made a double pack of Stove Top Stuffing and we had some for breakfast. I am glad I get paid on Thursday. I still have lots of potatoes, so we won't starve. Last night I made some re-fried beans by putting some if the food processor and adding Greek yogurt and taco powder. I put that in a panini and it was very good. Have you ever made a concoction and it turned out really good? Please share.

Oh I didn't add the ham fat to mine. I saved lots if ham fat in freezer bags just for boiling beans with. I just cook mine in water and I don't add salt, due to my blood pressure. I'm cookin cranberry beans. They are a lot like pinto beans. I love their texture and taste. They make a great paste like refried beans.

I never boil beans with salt because I pressure cook a kilo all at one time and freeze part of them. I read (and also know from experience) that when you freeze any food with salt added it will be too salty when you defrost it. So I add the salt later on.

I make a lot of soups too. I've gotten to make very low calorie soups packed with nutrition. I use tomato juice. I don't use meat for me and K. I put taco seasoning in it with my beans. Or I put chili powder in it. If I had other veggies right now I'd put them in.

Blender with carrots - Due to an accident I had to eat salt smoothies. I found some tasty new recipes that I´d enjoy serving them as soups. Deliciuos
Hello Pointless I´m glad to read you. You remind me my last 7 weeks. I had an accident. I felt down from a bunk bed and all my teeths loosen. I couldn´t eat anything but smoothies. So I tried a vary choice of them. Carrot smoothies, potato smoothies, beans smoothies. Times came when I was so hungry and so frustrated that I couldn´t smash with my teeth, that I took on the blender all what I wanted. As carrots, milk, potatos, butter, cheese, bread, sausages, or fish, tortillas. A friday I made a smooth base of beans with milk and I added a whole taco in it and blended it very well. It was so delicious. I´d like to repeat some of that salty smoothies as soups or pottages. Blessings Pointless... dainy

I kind of did that when I had mouth surgery. I blended up foods where I ate them like baby food and also made fruit and veggy mixed smoothies. I put strawberries, bananas and broccoli together with some orange juice. It was surprisingly good!

I am the sort to experiment in the kitchen. I have enough experience that I generally am pretty good at knowing what flavor combinations will work. My boyfriend will wrinkle his nose at the thought of certain things together, but he will then enjoy them. Of course, he doesn't cook, so he really has no idea what goes with what. Hopefully, when you go grocery shopping, you will be able to pick up a lot of veggies and fruit--for paninis, for salads, for roasting. Avoid all of the processed stuff such as Stove Top and head for the bulk bins to stock up on things like lentils, split peas, orzo, barley (good for soups!) and (of course) dried beans. The potatoes will work well if you have some garlic (preferably fresh, but even garlic powder will do) and make smashed potatoes. Also, quartering, tossing with some olive oil and seasonings and roasting makes for some great deliciousness. Potato soup would be a good option, too.

Pizzas can be made fairly healthy. The same is true of pot pies. You can add in all sorts of veggies to both.

Great ideas Wilsongoddard! I do buy Stove Top because it is easy to make and my family likes it. I try to make healthier stuff though and my daughter eats it. Her hubby won't touch anything healthy, hardly. He'd rather have pot pies and pizzas. I will make some pizzas on the panini press. He might eat them.

PointlessQuestions I really enjoy garbanzo beans(aka chick peas) and red kidney beans..but I use canned ones and mostly in my salads..I never really boiled my own beans ..can you tell me what kind you boil and how you prepared them? I don't have a food processor..I understand the protein in beans is extrememly healthy especially when you mix several kinds of beans together..

I like beans in salad too. I try to keep beans in the fridge all the time so I can use them when I want to.

Whenever I have a little of this and a little of that I do this. Right now I have some chicken, perogies, and bacon in the freezer. Also, two packs of frozen mixed veggies, and a thing of yogurt, and some creamiers.

What is that second thing you said? Peroges? I like putting stuff together also Ricki. I have to try and fix stuff that SIL will eat too. He eats more meat. In trying to get away from so much meat.

My husband is the coook in the family, and does interesting things, like wrapping cheese stuffed peppers in pillsbury buscuits, or cresents, and putting them in the oven, or something lke that. He also makes these tuna patties with eggs and bread crumbs, and we eat them on buns with tartar sauce. YUMMY!

It's amazing what we can make do with when we have to. I have made up some dishes using hamburger and left overs. I gave them names that sounded like they might have been a real recipe and the people I served them to thought they were really good.

That is great that you could make tasty meals from whatever is on hand. My dad could do that too.

I`m always imagining new dishes because I don`t like to eat the same thing over and over again. Maybe the best dishes I make are those I cook from leftovers. I must mix several ingredients as there is a little of each. Most of the times it is very yummy
