Did the author "sell out" with the movie?

My Sister's Keeper is my absolute favorite Jodi Picoult book. Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. Did anyone see the movie? What is your take on the movie versus the book and do you feel the author "sold out" her characters? To me, what made the book so fantastic was her characters and the fact that the book wasn't the typical young girls dies of cancer story. The movie however, I feel, turned it into exactly that; another sad story about a young life lost to cancer. What do you think?
