I'm pissed off with my boss!

Tell me how to understand my boss.....He is a westerner, he came to this country 3 months back which is very opposite the western culture. He doesn't understand the market in this country yet he is instructing us to do things which we (me and my team) know that it is contradicting to the market demand or market needs. Worse is, he doesn't listen to any suggestion from us, he insists the western way which is not applicable to the market in this country. He is a catastrophe hence we do not achieve our target!

The important thing here is he is your boss. He has that position for whatever reason he earned it and if his performance is not up to scratch it will soon become apparent to those he answers to. It does seem strange that he is trying to change the status quo because he should be able to see that his policies are not working as well as the policies that were in place before he arrived. Maybe you need to form a delegation and go over his head or just ask him if you can all have a meeting then sit down and explain to him the situation from your viewpoint. Just so you know, having a negative attitude does not help matters at all.

He does not listen at all, even other managers are telling him but he insist his own way. There are a lot of issues that has to be addressed, I mentioned some but he has his reasons which I don't see logical. I have been working and living on this part of the globe for the past 10 years and he just came a couple of months, he has to listen. Whew!

If you can talk to him respectfully (as a team) you mifght do it. But if he is placed there by a higher authority, you will have to wait until he discovers that he is dealing with a different culture.

I hope that he is modest (and wise) enough as to discover that in every place things are different and he asks advise from you even if he isyour boss.

I look forward that he will be able to learn the difference from which he came from and the country he is into now. I was so pissed that we had only one day left to meet our sales target hence he should at least listen to us who have been in this place for almost a decade.

While your boss is not doing things to your liking, he still is your boss. And if he is really doing as poorly as you say, the company would let him go. Unfortunately, you just need to find a way to adjust to how your boss does things.

I don't want him to get kicked out as he is not that bad. He is only stubborn and he should somehow listen to us who were here for such a long time and he is very new. Now the result of our project, we are at a loss of more than USD 5,000.00. Now we have to recover this by pushing more and exceed the target for this month. Whew!

Perhaps you can talk to him in a professional and objective manner. Ask him questions. A word to the wise: A man from a western culture, despite the western being more equal to women, still won't listen to others very well. Especially when he is in a leadership role. So, the best way to get through to him is to ask him questions. Ask him if he really is interested in understanding the local market needs. Does he want what is best for the local market and thus, for your company. In other words, he may be a 'butt in the head', but butting against him won't work. So, my suggestion is if you can't get through to him but asking him questions to help him understand your local ways, is to talk to his boss or find a new job in which your boss understands your country, culture and local market needs better.

I look forward that time will come that he will learn the way people are in this place. I have access to the top management but I wouldn't do that as he is not that bad, just stubborn and whatever outcome of our projects, he will be the one responsible as he is our head.

I think you've already labelled him as an egomania,so it is eaisly for you to judge his way of handling matters subjectively. This is the first of my point of view. The second is,no matter what he has decided, you need to support him as he is always your boss before you quit the job.Try to learn to be just his echo but when you can get along well, you can talk to him in a soft way to express some of your ideas.Do not show your dissatisfaction directly or he would think you just want to be against him. Do remember if you want to convince someone, try your best to let him rely on your ability first.Good luck to you, hope all the best. Happy new year.

Yes, you are right, he got that kind of ego. He was just a couple of months in this country and in this region he should consider our experience being here for almost a decade. However, he is not that bad, just stubborn.

If I have that kind of boss who is not open minded at all then I would rather transfer in another company already which is way better for me. It is hard to deal with a person who has too much pride who would insist their own tradition. Aside from that there are Westerners who really look down on Filipinos like us the one that they can easily manipulate.

He knows Filipinos can not say "no" however that part I can handle. I was just so annoyed that we need to achieve a certain target and he would not listen. Moving to another company is the ultimate solution but he is not that bad enough for me to run away from him.

I think the best thing to do here is for your team talk to him. Talk not regarding the work but how he is as a leader. As for reaching your goals, it is a team effort. And your team leader is a part of your team. Communication is the best way to deal with this.

You got a point, this has to be discussed and the whole team knows that we need to sort out other issues as well. For the past months, he has been so stubborn and don't know if he would ever listen.

Well firstly from your discussion it is not clear of which country you are talking about, only that you have a western boss who does not understand the needs of your country. But wherever you are located, if things go out of hand - It will be better to Change the Boss, before the Boss changes You.

Hahaha! He is not that bad, it's just that he is so stubborn. This part of the globe is very traditional with strict culture and religion. The mentality of the people is very much different from the western world.
