Hi guys, how I've missed you all over Christmas but I'm here now, back on my computer where I belong! Amazingly, there weren't the crowds I was expecting in Town before Christmas and beyond which is unusual as people would miss the postal deadline by then for any internet purchases, so it will be interesting to see who the winners and losers are during this time, as regards High Street chains. I predict a few will go under but we shall see. Anyway, I've been after a light fitting for absolutely ages from BHS (British Home Stores) and it had been reduced online but I was hoping that, once Christmas Day was out of the way, it was about to be reduced even more. Armed with £50 off my brother and a bit of my own money I went into BHS to look at the lighting. Up in the ceiling was the acrylic (can't afford crystal) clear chandelier called a Bryony, the 5 arm version, for £75. BARGAIN! I asked a shop assistant if it was in stock and she had a look, came back and told me it was 'probably in a box somewhere as it wasn't there' and, sure enough, just behind me was the same light but a boxed up version. It was the only one left in the shop. On the box was a £60 sticker. EVEN MORE OF A BARGAIN! I took it to the check-out and - apparently, it should've been sold for £75 but, due to a mix-up in pricing the boxed light i.e. the £60 sticker, it HAD to be sold on to me for £60. BARGAIN OF THE CENTURY! Believe me, I was ecstatic at that point, I really was as I know the original price of it was £150 before all the discounts! http://www.bhs.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=34096&storeId=13077&productId=5106343&langId=-1&categoryId=&searchTerm=jeans&pageSize=40 Unfortunately, the halogen candle bulbs were £6 EACH, bearing in mind I would need 5 of them. Not good. So, I had to come away without bulbs. No worries though. Me and John have to go out shopping tomorrow anyway so shall be on the hunt for some cheaper versions. I have to have halogen ones as they're a bit brighter, although we've never had the bulbs blow in the hallway (where the new light will go) so it won't really matter if we have to go down the standard bulbs route. John will get his Dad to fit it as it needs connecting up electrically, unlike the pendant upstairs. I shall take a photograph once it's up and running, probably in March seeing as his Dad is 'in charge' lol. By the way, I have a feeling the original light fitting in the hallway is made of real brass so I shall (hopefully) sell it on ebay for a good price, along with my old desk!!

Awww, why do you say that? To be honest, it's difficult getting up to clean the lights we already have, they're so high up in the silly high ceilings of ours!

And you wouldn't have it any other way, right? Mum doesn't normally allow her cats into the bedrooms but one of them snucked underneath a cover on my duvet whilst I was out of the room for a few seconds. Her little head peeped out of the cover. I showed Mum and she told me to 'leave her there.' She then got out from under the cover and led beside me..all night. She did keep waking up to wash and scratch herself even though she's been 'Frontlined.' Still, it was nice having her in my room, even if it was for one night only!

Don't you just love catching a store in a mistake that saves you money? Unfortunately here in the states a lot of the stores won't honor that policy of the customer being right. If something is marked wrong they will tell you at the register and charge you the price it should have been. I think that is because everything is handled by computer now a days.

Because the shop assistant was stood alongside me when I spotted the £60 sticker it was deemed a mistake in the pricing. Obviously, I could've swapped some stickers round if I were that way inclined..but I'm not so I didn't lol. Still...it was great to have a further reduction. Such a shame the bulbs were sooo expensive!

The good thing about expensive bulbs is they last longer than the cheap ones.

Not in this house they don't. However, I haven't bought the candle types before as I've not needed them, so I'm hoping they're more efficient than the golf-ball types we usually have. Mind you, the hallway has been lucky for us bulbs-wise. It's the living-room we tend to get problems with bulbs blowing on a regular basis.

Apologies it seems I have read this discussion and responded to your last one the wrong way round. I have been catching up with all my notifications, as I had a few days time out from Mylot. It seems like an anti-climax now doesn't it a big damper on your excitement of getting your chandelier only to find that it is faulty. Sounds too me like it was too good to be true. I hope you get it up and fixed soon, something to look forward to at least in the year. Happy New Year my friend and I hope 2013 will be a successful one!

Glad to have you back. I hope you had a nice break. Did you get any snow? You may have heard winter has once again arrived (with a vengeance!) this side of the pond after having taken last year off. Now get posting!

Glad to be back my friend. The week has dragged so much, mainly due to the telly programmes being dire on the most part. As Mum still hasn't got round to buying a laptop we couldn't go online although it's good to just chat, do you know what I mean? We haven't had snow but A LOT of rain. The Fylde coast (where Blackpool is situated) does have its own little micro-climate so the weather wasn't as wet as the rest of Lancashire and beyond, but having to go out on Christmas Eve was horrendous as it chucked it down all day. Dad's wore the shirt I bought him though (today in fact) so at least my purchase wasn't in vain.

Unfortunately, upon putting all the dangly bits on it it is now incomplete (broken) so I've emailed BHS to see if I can (either) re-order the broken part or a replacement chandelier, seeing as I've kept my receipt, thankfully.
