How safe and clean are bottled mineral water delivered to our homes?

Many people now in our place have mineral water delivered to their homes because they think that tap water coming from the faucet is unfit for drinking. Anyway, I grew up drinking water from the faucet. It is only lately that people are saying that the water reservoir from where tap water comes from is dirty, that it has dead frogs, etc. One time in a nearby town people died because of diarrhea from drinking tap water. So now the business of supplying bottled mineral water to homes has boomed. But I wonder about its sanitation as well because the empty bottles sometimes just lie around gathering dirt and dust. When it reaches the water refilling station, workers there are supposed to clean the empty bottles before refilling them again. However, one time I was at one of these refilling stations and saw that the cleansing or washing of these bottles is done manually by one person. Ergo, there are chances of not cleaning the bottles well. Some bottles already look worn-out and dirty on the outside. So now my question is: how safe and clean are bottled mineral water that is delivered to our homes?

Probably not all that safe. Unless someone calls an inspector, companies get away with things when no one is looking. Yes, they have annual or monthly inspections but they know when they are scheduled. So, it is up to each company to maintain their sanitation standards. Personally, I fill my own water jugs and it is up to me to clean out my water jugs, so I know they are kept clean because I keep them clean. Tap water tastes horrible - at least it does where I live, so I do go by taste and filtered water just tastes cleaner. If you don't trust the sanitation of this company, you could report it or just not give them your business.

It is hard to do that because I only have the water delivered so I'm not sure how clean it is. It's a problem really.

I guess no one can really be sure unless you are the one who have filled the empty bottle. I think tap water is safe to drink, they are chlorinated so the water are treated for safe drinking. I think it's more safer to drink tap water than some fly-by-night purified bottle outlet.

Hi every city ,town or country Has different standards. One time for the fun of it I use my dads pool test kit that tell how much cholorine in The pool. I use it on the Tap water. The tap water had more Cholorine in it then the pool. All so use it on a bottle water Same results. We now Use a water filter on on our tap Water. OK have good day.

What I know about bottled mineral water is that one of it labelled there reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis is not really good for health. If you drink it, the water will take away whatever vitamins and minerals including the bacteria. Removing vitamins and minerals is a bad thing. Removing bacteria that cause harmful to our body is a good thing. But, unless you want to detox your body, you can drink it. That too once a while is okay. If in the long run, you're drinking it, it will deteriorate your health.

i think the delivered water you cant be too sure unless you know that the company delivering has high hygiene standards, here in my country you buy from the shop and they clean as you watch and refill your container or you can pick the already packed.i also ensure to buy only from specific companies, once i was in a very hot area and bought from a vendor on the streets the water tasted soapy and i had to spit it out, from then on i choose to buy from the shops and specific known brands because some people are selling tap water thats not even treated.

That is why it is scary to think of how these people handle the water we drink.

I drink tap water in Greece although it is not always advisable everywhere. When I lived in Corinth the water was not drinkable, so people came from nearby Loutraki which had lots of beautiful fresh water, and filled bottles from there. I saw an interesting programme on TV about killing bacteria in water. People filled their bottles with water and then put them out in the sun. The water got so hot that the bacteria were killed and then the water was fit to drink. People buy bottled water in England although there is nothing wrong with the water there. They seem to think it is better but I have heard that often the tap water is much better to drink than bottled water.

Really? I haven't thought of that. The heat of the sun does kill bacteria.

Bottled mineral waters are safe to drink in foreign countries but in India it is not safe at all. India is full of cheatings, frauds, crimes and 420 activities. For the sake of money, people in india can do anything. the name is only mineral but in reality there is no mineral in it not the water is pure. They just fill tap water or fountain water and mix some chemicals in it and after bottling, distributes it in the market.

Then I think it is not different in our country. There could be some tricks here too.
