Ugh! The wrong part!

My car has an oil leak. I've had both my husband and my best male friend look at the car and they both came to the conclusion that it needed a camshaft seal. So yesterday I took the car down to my best male friend and he changed the oil on the car and then we went to the parts house to get the part that we needed to repair the oil leak. We get back to his garage and he tears apart the entire motor before realizing that they had given him the wrong end of the seal. We need the seal for the rear of the engine and they gave him the seal for the front of the engine. This essentially means that I wasted my entire day yesterday and I still have to find the right part (which doesn't seem to be all that easy to do). I'm not giving him any fault because of the fact that both him and Tom said that was the part that I needed. However, I'm still disappointed with the fact that I still have to get my car fixed. I do have to give Donnie credit though because he isn't charging me a lot to get the work done on my car that I need done.

At least you know what to do in fixing your car. My car broke just before Christmas. My husband has been working on it ever-since. If we had the cash he would have taken it to someone to fix, but now I will have to wait. Imagine starting the New Year without your wheels!!

Oh thank goodness he was able to come up with a fix that will work for the car for a week or so (and some leftover oil in the car just in case I should happen to need it). I absolutely would not be able to go through even a week without having the use of my car. I depend on it far too much.

Having car repairs can be exhausting especially for a woman because these people in the repair shop don't seem to take us seriously. They know that we don't know anything about these things. I am glad I don't have to deal with this problem anymore.

You know, you've really brought up a great point here and you've illustrated the reason that I will never walk into the parts house unless I know exactly what I need. It seems that if you are not able to tell them the exact part number that you need they will try to get you to buy a lot of things that you don't need.

We've played that game when hubby had tried to fix his previous car himself. There are a few things he is able to do and others he thinks he can do. I hate all that chasing only for my hubby to go and trade the car in anyway. I'm glad you know someone who can do the work w/o charging you an excessive fee. That's the worst thing how dealerships and manufacturers dictate how much to charge for repairs.

I honestly believe that my mechanic wouldn't charge me anything at all if it wasn't for the fact that he does have to somehow make a living for himself. You see, he's been one of my closest friends for years and he didn't charge me for the first couple things that he did. Now he needs the money and I actually wouldn't expect him to do the work for free. I don't mind paying him 20-40 dollars plus the parts for a repair that would ordinarily cost 300-400 dollars.

oh for the days when we lived out that way and had family and friends that know mechanics willing to help for a small price. here we dont know anyone that does that. 4 men in the house and none of them know the new mechanics of cars with computerised works. we usually have to run them to a shop. big money

Honestly, I've had my car for almost ten years (it will be 10 years on the 12th of March that I've been driving the car). In the ten years that I've had my car, it has never been to an actual mechanics shop. Tom used to do a lot of the work himself, but since he's been struggling with his health and higher demands at work, it just makes sense to me to take the car to Donnie and have him do the work.

I ended up having to order the part off of the computer as it was something that wasn't available local, so it is going to be a few days before I'm able to get my car fixed. At least Donnie told me that it should be okay for a few days for the little running that I have to do during the week. The part will be to me on Friday sometime.
