Watching movies at the Theater or at Home?

I prefer to watch movies at home. I don't care if the screen is only the size of my lap top's screen or the big screen at movie theaters. Or the size of our TV's screen, which isn't that big. My husband likes the big screen but it just isn't important to me. So, he enjoys going out to the movies. I like to be able to rewind a movie if I can't catch what is said. I like to be able to stop a movie if I have to take a break. I like to be able to talk during a movie. I prefer homemade popcorn. I prefer homemade cookies, rather than eating store bought candy at a movie. Anyways, the list goes on. I just prefer being with the people who I love and not with a theater full of strangers when watching a movie. What is your preference - theater or at home? And why?

I prefer watching movies at home, screen is not something that I'm concerned about, my main priority is money, I don't want to spend a single penny for watching a movie, if movies are available online, why would I pay for watching those movies? At the same time, at home, I can watch the same movie more than once, if I like any scene, I can rewind and watch it again and at home I feel more relaxed. I've my headphone for watching movies which provides a surround sound effect while watching movies.

My family went to see The Hobbit at Christmas. It was a special treat and family time together. The tickets were $8 each. I was so shocked that they were so expensive. I guess that shows that I don't go to the movies that often. I really didn't like spending $8 on watching a movie once when a few months later, I could buy the DVD and watch it over and over for about the same price.

It depends.I watch most of the movies at home.I can watch it anytime and if I miss some important details,I can turn it back freely and watch again at random. But sometimes I would go to the theater or cinema to watch it with my friends.I regard it as a reaction which I can be amused by the live atmosphere. Happy new year there.

I enjoy watching movies at theatre as well as at home on my laptop depending on the situation. Having said that I prefer watching a movie in theatre when I am with a group of friends and on my laptop when there i am alone.. when watching on the laptop i prefer having a good surround speakers or a good pair of headphones as i give equal priority to both picture quality as well as sound/music. And one exception is if I have to watch a just released movie then the obvious choice for me is to go to a multiplex!!!

I would prefer to stay home and watch movies. The theaters here are freezing and the sound is extremely loud. Some of the newer theaters are now offering dinner with a movie. That might interest me but again I would prefer to be home. I tend to get so relaxed during a movie that I fall asleep. May as well be in my own bed or on a comfy couch at home if I am sleeping! lol Happy New Year.

It depends on the movie. If it's a sad movie, I'd rather watch it at home because I cry so easily. I don't want to cry in public. That would be too embarrassing. But if it's an animated or action movie, I will definitely enjoy watching them at the cinema especially if there are many special effects that don't translate well on the small screen.

I would love to watch movies at home.Going to theaters is a little bit expensive and dirty, there are always some rubbish on the floor after the last film finished.I really prefer to watch at home,it is convenient and cozy,I think it is the same with in the theater if I turn off the light at night.

I do like to go out but not necessarily to the theater. Yes, I think you really explained it well - turn off the lights and it is like being at the theater. Good observation.

It is a long time since I bothered to go out to watch a movie. I accept that there is a better setting in a cinema, but watching a movie at home is far more convenient. I have a 42 inch television, which may not be a huge size but it is more than adequate. The beauty of watching movies at home is that I do not have to travel or queue, I can choose the time that I want the movie to start and can even pause the movie to make a coffee or a sandwich. Considering that it is also far cheaper to stay at home then there is no incentive for me to go to a cinema at all.

Watching movies at home is better in my opinion. I get to pause if I need to get food or go to the washroom, rewind if I didn't catch what was said and fast forward through the more explicit scenes that I'd rather not see. I also find the sound in the theaters really loud at times. If I'm watching it at home, I get to control the volume as I want to.

Right now I prefer watching at home since we have a one year old son and we don't want to leave him so just we can watch at the theater and we also don't want to bring him since he would probably bored as well as making a lot of noise. There are some films that I prefer to watch in the big screen, those with lots of special effects but that have to wait until my son is at the right age to bring in the theaters.

I would say that I prefer movie watching at home if we have suitable electronics do provide a good movie watching experience. I like the fact that watching movies at home with someone we know and love is a more wonderful experience at times. I did with my girlfriend all the time. But sometimes I would bring her out for movie at the theater too just to have a different kind of experience like many lovers do. After the movie we can still have a good walk in the shopping mall .

Although Home Movies are economical and cheap because you just need a DVD, a DVD-Player, a Pop-corn and dimmed light to watch films over your house. I still prefer watching movies on movie theatres. Not that I am choosy, is just that I want to have that “movie experience” which I can watch the film in big screen and with a realistic feel such in 3d-movie theatre and Dolby Surround Sound.

I feel very boring when i watch movie in theater. It's dark and make my eyes sleepy. I cannot fast forward when some scene i dont like. I very like to watch at home. I can rewind again if i miss some scene. I can watch again and again the movie i like if i watch at home.

At home I can relax on my sofa with the dogs at my feet!! If it is a new movie and look promising I might consider theater, otherwise, home, sweet home is best!

I guess for me it depends on the circumstances and other factors like the movie and genre of movie. If i do not have a friend to go theater, then i might prefer to watch movie alone in my home.It could either be in tv or in laptop or from streaming sites. But if i do have company and that its a new movie, then i would generally prefer watching it in theater. Watching movie in theater is still special with the sound effects and larger audience. Its fun many a times.I love watching movies there. But then are factors like convenience and cost involved.Last year, i have watched more movies alone than in theater. One reason is the lack of time for things and also that large number of movies are available online and we have lot of choices to make.Plus the convenience of watching or stopping movies whenever and wherever we want. The enjoyment though is bit less but considering cost and things,is worth according to some people. I guess the theater magic is fading nowadays due to dvds and home theater systems. Thanks!

I like going to the movie theater it's a treat when me and my husband go. I like going out to the movies because then I don't have to wait all day for the kids to go to sleep to just watch a movie we can plan a night out and go to the movies with out being interupted by a little ones screaming mommy or daddy. I don't mind being home watching a movie it's fine I know it's cheaper too but I like to go out and just have some adult time with my husband even if it's with a bunch of strangers that I don't know. Every where you go you are around strangers so it's not different to me.

I would love to see block-buster movies on big screen and average and good movies on small screen. Of course the joy of watching movie in theater can never be matched by small screen(sound and picture quality) but as you said there are lot of other benefits watching movie on your laptop.

i prefer watching movies in big screen only but not in a small screen. watching in theatre have many advantages i hope i will have more fun in theatre. we can enjoy the most in theater when it comes to enjoyment at home we cant shout or scream because it makes disturbance to others. again watching fav stars movies at days of releasing only gives kick.that kick doesnt get at any place or for any work. i do prefer watching in big screens only

It varies from person to person.I personally prefer watching movies at Theatres. This serves me 2 purpose. Firstly Big screen enjoyment for better experience. Second I can hang out with my friends and have a good time. But I don't like to watch Cricket in Big screen or in the Ground.I prefer to watch a cricket or football match in my home.
