I believe in instilling a good work ethic and knowing how to manage money effectively. But I am wondering if I should let me 11 year old daugther try this. Ok here's the thing she is extremely responsible and mature for her age she's always been a bit more advanced than her brothers and sisters. She's asked me on several occasions for a way for her to make her own money which I think is very admireable of her. So I started giving her a certain amount of money for doing chores around the house and helping out with her 3 year old sister. She even has a saving's account at our bank and she manages her money extremely well. Anyways she loves doing crafts and making things and she got this big thing of different beads and strings and assecories to make necklaces and bracelets and different people at church and such has said wonderful things about her necklaces and bracelets and a few have even ordered some from her and so she's been spending this week making and getting them done. She said that she is going to give so much from her money in offering at church then put the rest in her account. She asked me if I could help her sell them online. I want to do this for her but Im wondering about the age thing. I figured I could put them online in my name and use my paypal account then I would have to keep her money seperated from mine. I dont want to use ebay because of the few times I've had bad expereiences from my own persoanl selling. So Im just wondering what I should do I want to help her and I think it would be good her. What would be your suggestions in what sites should I try?

christylynn: I say let her do it. You already say that she is pretty level-headed and talented. I would encourage her to go after her dreams. I think as long as she has a great mom like you looking after her best interests, keeping her grounded and making sure she doesn't let it take over her life, she will find success. Do let us all know when you get that site up. I see that others have made some really good suggestions for selling her jewelry (the flea market and local stores. I sincerely wish her much success.

I want to say thank you to everyone who has commented so far. Thank you for all the suggestions. I forgot about putting a website up in fact I have even have one up already for her that she asked me to put up for her singing so I suppose I could just add her jewerly to it. I've been showing her how to maintain her website so that way she can do it on her own. So I may work on that this week with her and I will let everyone here know when it's up. Thanks again.

Wow! Your daughter is a young business woman. It would never surprise me if someday she'll be a multi-billionaire one. I would be very happy if my daughter would turn out to be like that but definitely I'll be mentoring her as well that as she grows money she needs to share it with those who needed it. I will tell her as well that money can't buy all things and it's definitely not a source of real happiness. hahahaha

yeah i think i'll do it same as you. it's good to know that her daughter doing so good with the money. but just like you say earlier, money isn't the things that can bring our to the happiness, but if she can use her money for helping other people, it'll be more good as she doing that job for earning money.

Making jewelry is an awesome way to make money. If you think it's good enough get of it get a table at a flea market. Your right about ebay everyone wants something for nothing there. As long as I was selling on it and I mean years I seldom made any money. Take pictures of the jewelry and try craigslist I've sold a number of things on there for the price I set. I don't know about paying her to do things around the house that she should do anyway. I never could understand why people did that.

Sounds like you have a very smart little girl and congratulations on that one! I would help her out as much as you can since she's such a go-getter! Do you have any small stores in your area that would possibly take some of these on consignment for her? Do you have any craft fairs? These are two places I would try since you do not want to take them to Ebay, which is too bad. I buy and sell on Ebay and haven't really had that many problems over the past 10 years at all. I'm sorry to hear you did. There is also another place that takes craft items and it's called Etsy. I have never sold anything there but it's highly a recommended site from what I understand. Good Luck and I wish your daughter well in her new adventure.
