Hand me downs...

I love it when the kids get clothes given to them. Last night my daughter went to stay the night with her older sisters and she came home this morning with four pairs of jeans. I love it. These hand me downs really help, and I don't have to worry about keeping the kids in clothes. They are still growing pretty fast. How do you feel about hand me downs from others or shopping at the thrift store?

I know I really appreciate these jeans for her. I remember in the 4th grade I had nothing but dresses. I had one pair of jeans. I hated dresses and I would have given anything to have some jeans. These are nice jeans too, they are hardly used and just her size. I love all the colors of Mexican clothing..so pretty

I love red and green together. How cold is it there now? It's 21 degrees here now and I'm about ready to go snuggle up in my bed and get nice and toasty warm.

That's is great! My aunts will usually give me some pair of very nice suits too and I love it since these clothes are expensive. Most of my clothes are only best for same age as me and it is great that I got my working suits from aunt and sister Inlaw. When we were in Japan I gave most of my clothes to the donation center we had in military base and it feels great when you know someone can benefit your old not worn out clothes;-)

How awesome! I would have loved to have gotten suits handed down to me when I was subbing when I was going through student teaching. Those suits can be very expensive but the quality is excellent. I did get one of my "interview" suits from Dots and it only cost $10. We don't have a Dots around here where I live now.

I don't have much experience with hand me downs because I was the oldest and always got the new clothes. My little brother and cousins doesn't seem to mind though. The baby clothes in my family have been worn by at least four infants and it feels like a nice family tradition. Other items like jackets and jeans there is plenty so it just feels like sharing especially since we are all grown now.

With my oldest son, I would always buy his clothes from yard sales and garage sales. Now he did get a few new clothes from the store or for birthdays and holidays, but I was very resourceful in finding clothes in his size during the summer sales. I think it's a great family tradition to pass along used clothing or items like blankets and stuffed animals.

I grew up on hand me downs for the most part. I loved it because it was always exciting to get what others wore. I don't mind going to hand me down stores either, provided I wash the items well. There are of course stores for fashions at a cheaper price that come direct from the manufacturer. I bet she was excited to get the jeans too!

She sure was excited, she has been wanting some jeans from the Goodwill the last two times we went, but I have so much allotted for "Goodwill" shopping too. I always wash anything I buy before we wear them. We washed all the jeans today, so she is set for the week.

I know the kids like to have new clothes for themselves, something that has never been worn before because I like new clothes too, often times though we really need to "buckle down" and watch where and what we are spending our money on. Thank you for commenting.

Hand me downs and thrift stores are a parents life line at times.Money has been tight and the kids needed shoes or jeans and thanks to family, friends, thrift stores,I was able to supply these items with ease.

Persomally,I am all for hand me downs, and passing stuff on to others you or your kids have outgrown. What amazes me, is that there are people who feel outraged when someone offers them clothes, etc which amazes me. But personally I would think people would appreciate this to help them save money for something else as well.

I am fortunate that my cousin's son is one size bigger than my son, so my son has received a lot of hand-me-downs. It has saved me a lot of money and time. And he likes getting his cousin's clothes. He does get some new clothes as gifts for his birthday and Christmas.

My daughters have traded and handed down clothes to the rest of the family since forever. When sofìa was born (my youngest granddaughter) she got so many clothes from all her cousins that she could have worn a different outfit each day for the first montjhs. Now clothes are more scarce as childs wear out more clothes as they grow. But still she gets plenty.

I do not have a problem with hand me down clothes at all. My daughter has a friend from our church that gives her daughter clothes that her daughter has outgrown. It has saved her a lot of money since she is a single mom.

I absolutely love hand me downs as they are a great way to save a lot of money. I had a lot of hand me downs when I was growing up and I loved the fact that it seemed like I was always getting new clothes. However, being as how my daughter is the oldest grand daughter and my son is the only grand son on both sides of our family, we don't get any hand me downs. Thus, I do the next best thing and I admit that the majority of the clothes that my children wear are from the local thrift stores or yard sales.
