Does any believe in writing as a form of therapy, or as being therapeutic?

I myself find writing to be healing and a form of expression, a way to express one's thoughts and feelings that they may be encountering at the moment. I use to keep a dairy as a young child and I still have it today, I realize that by keeping this dairy I could take a look back at my younger self and the things that I went through and the grow in maturity. Writing is a great way of therapy and it also in my opinion, helps one expressively and creatively.

Writing is indeed an art. Art has always had that "healing characteristic" not only for the one who sees it but but for the one who performs/makes it. It is a means of expression, so I think I do agree with you.

Yes, very true. You have the liberty to speak, for letting others know-and today even, the whole world- while keeping the unwanted limelight away from your true person.

Thank you for agreeing with me. I have always felt that writing was good for releasing things and expressions ones deeper feelings inside, that there not comfortable enough to say out loud or just don't want others to know about.

That is how I feel about writing as well. When I get upset I just start writing this way I don't say something that I don't mean to someone. I just get it all out on paper and re read it later when I've calmed down. Then I can see things more clearly.

You are absolutely right, You hit it right on the nail, great answer. Because writing down things that you are feeling on paper when you are upset is great, because later you can read it again and it may look different to you the situation once your anger is gone. Because had to said what you wanted at the time you might have wish you would have. Love this response you gave.!!!:)

Thank you for liking my response. It helps a lot. When I was pregnant and I didn't feel like anyone would understand me I would write to my mom friends they would understand everything that I felt even when I was angry upset and mad. Some times you just need to get it off of your chest with out anyone getting hurt in the processes. Some times the things I say in angry is very funny and other times just mean.

I love to write to feel better. I write in a journal a few times a year just to get my feelings out, good and bad. It's kinda cool to go back and look at the previous entry because it puts life in perspective. You think "wow, so much has happened since then." And even if you don't use personal writing, you can still express yourself by having an imagination, knowing facts, or even like in myLot, having an opinion!

I think that you are so right, you can use writing for getting out feelings, and to go back and reflect on what you was going through at that time, It is also good for being creative and using ones imagination to bring forth something great that will touch others or what have you. Great response!!!:)

I always found writing very therapeutic. As a child it was an emotional release as I could not find any other. I was in an abusive family, not like I could scream or break things. Even now it helps me release pain, sort through concerns and confusion. It expresses my hopes and dreams as well. And you are right, it is good to go back and look through a diary or journal. It can help you see if there are issues you need to work on. It helps you to see your personal growth. And it reminds you of some of life's little blessings you may have forgotten about. Emotions stored in the body instead of being released in some way can be detrimental to your over all health. Releasing in a positive way is very healing. Good for you. I still write, but I also paint now.

Exactly ! Writing is a great help to me. It helps me express all my angst , fears , doubts and all what i have inside . It's my solace and my confidant. It never gets tired of listening to me. Anytime i need to shout , it is just there 24/7. It is my shock absorber actually ! The moment i am done pouring all my emotion , i then feel at least a little bit relieved and can make some step forward now. I believed if your are that down and no one whom to pour down , writing is in rescue. Get a pen or keyboard then lets those hands moves by your emotions inside and you will find out later how beautiful it is.
