Well I was in this shop this morning to buy a certain office form pad and asked one sales clerk on that floor if they had what I was looking for. Her response was immediately negative, but anyway asked another sales lady who instantly gave the same answer. I knew that it's impossible for this department store not to have this office form. So I looked around and it did not take me 5 minutes to find what I was looking for. They have it, so why are they saying otherwise? Question: Aren't sales people supposed to undergo a sort of sales training so they will know what products they are selling or so they can give customers direction as to where to find certain items?

Or maybe they couldn't be bothered? Seriously though I have gone into shops and have asked for something and they look at you as though you are asking for the world, or something strange like a lunar brick. Yet other times the assistants have been more than helpful, and if they don't know the answer will put themselves out and go and find it for you. It depends on the shop and the assistants to be honest. Sometimes they are briefed on new products, sometimes by email, but of course they'd have to read them to know a new product was on the shelves!

Of course, product knowledge is the first step to selling and these girls are just there to stand and get their salaries after 15 days.

I bet it would be a different story if they only earnt commissions on the products they sold!

That would have made a huge difference if they were given commissions per sale.

If I am the supervisor of that office supplies shop I directly give them a written warning if I know myself that both of them undergone training. It's possible that they are new and didn't undergo training. I am running a business that needs a sales lady that knows everything about our product. I observe one time that one of my crew said nothing to the customer so I talk to her and give ideas. Every company should give time to all their crew for a monthly or half year training.

Big groceries and stores do this every newly hired they like SM, Ayala, Robinson's etc. But some small stores most of the time didn't do it to their crews, they think waste of time

Upon hiring and before facing the customers, the training should be given to these salesgirls in order to prevent these things from happening.

Yeah. Some sales person just get the job and just smile and don't know well about the product they are selling. They just get the attractive saleslady but without product training.

It's disastrous to the business because people don't want to go back there anymore.

That's really a big slapped on her face!Maybe they undergo training but they didn't much attention during that time.I also noticed that there are few of them who don't know how to entertain customers. They even don't great the customers which they ought to do. It's their protocol.

Obviously, they were not trained for the job. They probably think they are there to stand only and get paid.

Yes, i also noticed that every time I go to a shop. Some sales lady where out of their mind and did not know what to do. Some did not know if there are still stocks or not. Some sales lady even sees me from head to foot and that's very annoying. Some sales lady always go where ever I go and as if I am a shoplifter. Well, that's their job but yeah I agree with you. They should undergo proper training for the sake of the establishment they are working for.

Many of them just finished high school or are only high school level so they did not have any training in sales. It is necessary to teach them about customer relations and customer satisfaction.

They must have training from time to time. They must know what they are offering and be accomodating as well because some of them just ignore their customers especially if the customers are just in their plain clothes.

Most places give you a quick training on the registers they use and supposedly customer service. If you want something you have to go and find it yourself which to me is not customer service so I would blame the boss.

No, not all stores have proper training for their employees. If she is new, she should have been trained to ask another employee. That would provide better customer service. Some stores have trained their employees to not point but to walk with the customer to the item. That is the best kind of customer service. Sounds like she needs to spend time learning where everything is in the store. If she takes that time to train herself, she would be a very good employee.

Hi Zoe. That store has a real problem. It's not just one sales girl because the first one I asked also asked another salesgirl who gave the same negative answer.
