We are very very fortunate in our country in that we don't have earthquakes, we had a few tremors, but that was all they were just tremors, we don't have volcanoes either, the only danger we have is severe flooding, and rivers breaking their banks, I would hate to live in a country that has frequent earthquakes, I know they are prepared for it, but even so that doesn't stop the loss of life.

Hi!
We do get our bit of share in India.
Earth quakes of low to medium intensity keep occuring here. Major earth quakes happen rarely but when they happen they play havoc with human life and property.
Hopefull people of Alaska will be safe.

Here one time we got an earthquake which was weird because we never get earthquakes here in Texas. It was a small one though, and I didn't know about it until I got to work the next day. We have never had any Tsunamis. The things we normally get is Tornados and Hurricanes. But far from were I am here in Texas, because we don't live near the ocean or anything like that. In my hometown we lived near the ocean and had to deal with the hurricanes a lot as well as tornados. Earthquakes in my opinion and Tsunamis are scary I wouldn't want to live in an area were they had earth quake or a tsunami.
I really do hope that everyone is okay in Alaska, after the aftermath of the earth quake and the tsunami.

really, seems mother nature has been up to evil in many places for the last 12-16 months.

We've had a few tornadoes but nothing really major. We usually get dumped with snow in the winter, but most of the time it's something that can be cleaned up relatively quick.
I was unaware of the earthquakes in Alaska. I do not think I would be able to go through an earthquake without being shaken up to much. Life is calm here in Michigan and I hope they are for you too there in Mexico.

My kids are quite interested in earthquakes - There is a website they check for earthquake readings.
We even get them in the UK now and again - Sometimes they get up to 2.5.
The first Earthquake I remember was the one that happened in Mexico the year before the World Cup in Mexico.
It was my forst memory of an Earthquake and it's aftermath - the destruction and carnage being shown on TV.
I was only 15 when the Mexican Earthquake happened and I suspect that I only noticed it had happened because it happened where the World Cup was taking place.

hi mariaperalta.
i've read about this news and it is indeed very rare for that part of the world ot experience earthquakes. i think it goes to show how the world is changing with the issues about climate change and how we are destroying the environment.
anyway, i live in the philippines and the country is located in the pacific ring of fire so ther are a lot of earthquakes as well as volcanic eruptions here. from the top of my head i can remember devastating earthquakes that hit the parts of the country and volcanic eruptiosn as well. there are a lot of active volcanoes in the country and i'm very thankful that not has acted up recently. about earthquakes, there are a couple of fault lines across the country and again i'm thankful that there are no major earthquakes felt. studies show that the country is not prepared if it is hit with a 7.5 magnitude quake. i'm praying that we do not experience such. about tsunamis, there are coastal towns but haven't really heard or read about the threat of tsunamis in those areas.
anyway, no one can predict earthquakes from happening and the best precaution against it is to be prepared and keep your wits about when it strikes.

Earthquakes and tsunamis are so scary. We can get earthquakes or tsunamis here in Puerto Rico too. I hope I never have to experience such a thing. I pray that everyone is ok and that there was not much damage. Ironically, we were just watching last night the movie "The Inpossible" concerning the tsunamis in trailand that happened in I think 2004 its based on a true story. So many people lost their lives. The story was based on one family and their ordeal. The movie is with Naomi Watts.

we do get big quakes, we had 2 last year over 7.0. In 1985 we had thousands killed here from a quake.
