That's what's bad about holidays - we eat as if these days are our last on Earth. So, logically, most people do the following - after the great eating, the great starving appears. Which is wrong. I'm not a saint, I do it, too. What I do - I spent the whole January eating mostly fruits and vegetables, 4-5 times a day, small portions, and I drink a lot of water (1-2 litres a day, maximum). I eat other meals, of course, including chocolates and candies, but balanced. I try to avoid diets and sports. It works for me.

hello iva75cpb! you mentioned something which i am for certain guilty of of completely omitting in my daily diet. i don't drink 1-2 liters of water in a day. in fact i have to confess that my intake of water does not add up to a liter :( thank you very much iva75cpb for opening my eyes to what's lacking in my diet:(

i'll remember everything you said about drinking 1-2 liters of water iva75cpb. yup you are correct water is a great diuretic i need to remind myself that very important fact every time. thanks again iva75cpb!

Drinking enough water is essential to maintaining weight. Not only the water facilitates metabolism, it is also a great diuretic and no toxic substances remain in the organism. But what's most important - do not overdrink! I mean, some people exceed water drinking to more than 3 litres per day which can be fatal for the kidneys. Experts say 1-2 liters tops, so that's what we should do. I keep it balanced between 1 and 1.5 litres, sometimes 2, no more. Good luck with the "diet"!

you are not alone, even i am having that problem, my daughter opened school and i see her uniform is tighter.i think the festive season we had too much to eat the best is to make sure to do atleast 30minutes of exercise daily.if you cant go out try skipping start with about 30skips and make sure you keep adding more daily.

hello pomwango! 'm happy that you and i have the same problem with excess weight but 'm sad at the same time cause i know it's not healthy to be fat :( i cant promise to do at least 30 minutes of exercise daily cause i know i won't be able to keep my promise:( pomwango...how do you do it? do you exercise at the same time of the day everyday for 30 minutes like its already a " habit" or do you do it when you feel like you want to exercise already?

Exercising for 30 minutes is not a great task. Of course, you can't do it right away. Just start with 5 minutes exercise the first couple days and then slowly increase the duration. In just 10 days, you will be able to exercise for 30 minutes daily. I assure you :)

Hi mammots, I hardly refrain from taking those delicious festival desserts as well during Chinese New Year season. To avoid gaining extra weight I do my best to grab at least half an hour to do physical exercises even during busy festive season. I realize that it's would be really difficult to reduce weight after gaining excessive weight. At least doing so I feel rather easy as gaining some weight still can loose it without difficult. Yeah, eating less especially oily and sweeties and have more physical activities besides regular physical exercise I hope you can cut down your unwanted weight successfully very soon Happy posting

hello lkbooi! i am a lazy bone ... i don't do exercise regularly! i used to belly dance as a form of exercise when i felt i was gaining too much weight. i seriously exercised cause i couldn't fit into any of my clothes anymore. i thought it was much cheaper to loose the excess weight than buy a whole new set of bigger sized clothes but when i regained my "ideal weight" and could fit into my clothes again i dropped belly dancing and went back to being a "lazy bone" again:( i really hope too that i would be successful in getting rid of my unwanted weight cause 'm not used to feeling some parts of my body jiggly when i move:( thanks lkbooi for sharing your way of maintaining your ideal weight with me!

Hi I usually walk and drink warm/hot water every time. I know we gain lot of weight during festivals. But this pattern works. Drinking hot water helps us to clean the stomach and also helps in getting flat tummy. we obviously loose weight.

I haven't been my ideal weight in about seven years. I am getting older now and it truly is harder to keep my weight down. When I want to lose weight, I just start eating the way I should be eating all the time. I consume more water making sure I get in all eight cups and then some. I also drink distilled water, because it's safer. I eat more fruits and vegetables making sure to get in at least nine a day. I will eat a lot of green beans and broccoli, because they have less carbs than the other vegetables. I eat a lot of fruit all the time. I especially love my apples, blueberries, pineapple and strawberries. I will get my weights out and do the strength training I need to do as well as start jogging and walking. I will also eat every two hours, so my blood sugar never takes a dip. I will avoid all processed foods, diet soda, and other sugary drinks. I won't drink coffee with creamer. These are the things I do and work that will bring me closer to my ideal weight.

Once you get the right mindset and really want to succeed, you will be able to do it. The biggest obstacle is the mind. You have to really want the change.

By eating as healthy as I can and going to the gym to work out twice per week. It really helps a lot. Belly dancing is also good, I used to do it. It is also actually fun.

hello babyeve! that's the reason why i like belly dancing cause its a lot of fun and its very feminine. it does not make me muscular at all. 'm enjoying myself and exercising at the same time. babyeve i have to confess...'m not eating as healthy as i should these days:(

Yes you are definitely right Dear. Belly dancing will not make you muscular. But I like it when I am a bit muscular and that is why I go to the gym. You should try to have a healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. It will not be easy at first of course, but you will get used to it after a while I assure you. :)

I am fortunate in that I maintain my ideal weight by going to the gym three times a week, I set myself a rigid 90 minute work out which I do, combing cv activity with weights, I put on a few pounds over Christmas which is to be expected, but I shall easily burn them off.

I walk my children to school and preschool. It is healthy exercise and many other people miss out on this because they drive there plus back. I became a member of my local sports center and they have fast paced activity sessions. My favorite is Zumba dancing and then a jacuzzi after this. If I have enough time I fit in a swim as well. At home in the evenings I do some dancing to the Zumba tunes I like the best. I lost around 4 kilos of weight with a trip around South America. I was carrying luggage and doing ever so much walking. This year I am not allowing myself crisps, biscuits or cakes. My weakness is still wanting roasted and salted nuts. I like to drink lots of water and pure fruit juice. I think you could go back to belly dancing because it could be great fun. Good luck.

This is kind of annoying to me ... I'm sure you have 'extenuating circumstances' or some reason you can't control yourself around junk-food, but---you maintain your weight by NOT GOING TOO FAR FROM YOUR REGULAR DIET. Like Jennifer Hudson says in her commercial for WeightWatchers, 'she is able to keep her weight and her shape--not by NOT eating the occasional super-size extra-large meal--but BECAUSE she does!' Your body is a mixed-bag of chemicals drawn from what YOU put into it (mixed with the air you breathe). Keep an eye on what you put in--not necessarily down to the gram, but give yourself an allowance--and you'll see what you need to change. You might even "search" (above) for 'WeightWatchers' & see if that's something you want to try out!

hello mythociate! yup you are correct i have every form and kind of excuses why i cant stay away from junk food and sweets:( one of my extenuating circumstance is that junk food is my comfort food. when i am very tired and need a pick me up i binge on junk food or strawberry ice cream:( thanks for pointing me to the right direction where to go for guidance on watching my weight!

When we become conscious of our weight or figure, psychology we gain weight and add width,.,basically to maintain a fit figure, still eat what your stomach needs, cuz if not, your digestive system will look for another source to digest.to bring back your weight or maintain your ideal weight, lessen the meat, the carbo and calories. but make sure that your eating habit will not affect your digestive system because the more you lessen the more you will look for something to eat. avoid non-calories food or foods with lesser calories because your body might not be able to respond with your daily activities. also, make sure to release sweat, as much as possible. start your belly dancing right away but make sure that it wont harm or affect your figure.

I agree that it's hard to stay at a good weight during the holidays with all the good food. What I found that works for me is to eat a lot but eat frequently. I've read that a good way to increase your metabolism is to eat every 2-3 hours. This is also good for the holidays because there's a lot of good food available, leftovers and cakes, so every two hours I eat eat a little bit. This holiday season I tried this and didn't gain much weight even though I ate quite a bit.

To lose weight you need planning and stick to your plan. Try to fast at least a full day once a month. During that full day fast, make sure you drink plenty of water. This is fast from food and fruit juices. Remember, I repeat you must drink plenty of water. You know why? The stomach is used to routine when the time comes for us to eat the stomach automatically secretes acids for digesting the food we eat even though you fast but the stomach says, it is now the time for digestion. Exercise is also a good way to lose weight. The easy and free way is brisk walking or swimming at the beach if you live near the beach. You can also sit up and press up and running on the spot. This is also free and can be done while watching your favorite program on TV.

"Lucky" girl, being able to worry about that! Me, I need to get there. People here talk about it being easier to avoid gaining weight than to shed it, but I must add that it's a lot easier to shed weight that you've gained recently than weight you've had for some time. Other ways to shed recent weight or avoid gaining weight include including more bran in your diet, especially in your last intake of the day (but if you then get muscle cramps you may need to increase your calcium/vitamin D intake concurrently or reduce the amount of bran you eat in the evening), and eating when you're most likely to burn it off, i.e., not too much in the evening.
