when i was young i enjoyed this oversight.i remember i would take the bus home and the conductor forgets to ask for the fare,i would happily get off the bus and go treat myself with the fare saved.once i went to the supermarket and the cashier overlooked an item and i was so happy and ofcourse treated myself with that cash.later when i worked in a bank and understood that the teller will pay for the shortage i stopped and now even if they forget to ask i go pay, have you ever had such moments?

I didn't have the experience where the conductor forgets to collect my fare. But if he forgets to collect your fare, that means he forgets to issue you a ticket. So he does not lose any money. The bus company is the one that make less money. In the case of supermarket, if the cashier miss an item it means it was not charged to you. This again means that it is the supermarket that loses money on the item not charge. The cashier does not lose any money.

Dear James, if the cashier over pay the change, he/she needs to pay back to the supermarket. For example : if you pay the cashier RM50 for goods / things priced at RM39. If the cashier give change amounting to RM15.00 that means he over pay you by RM4. The cash balance at the end of the day will be short of RM4 in which the cashier have to pay back to his supermarket or salary deducted with the amount.

pomwango,Yes, the supermarket is at the lost, not the cashier. If no ticket is issued, it means you have to put your money in the box, even though you put extra, there is no change back. So no loss to the driver. Iriene, Yes, in this case, the cashier has to pay for the shortage.

we have some buses that don't issue tickets so,it would mean i got a free ride and the conductor will still be short because he counts his money against the trips,so he will be short.with the supermarket its still a loss to them because its their goods gone without payment.

When I was small, it happened once where the conductor forgot to collect. At the point of going down I gave the money but she said no need. I am so happy. When I am adult, I always pay if the cashier forgot because I knew that the cashier are liable to pay if the mistake is theirs. You are doing the right thing because we do not want the same thing happens to us.

I never did that when it came to a cashier but I will admit to having those moments when it came to riding on the bus a few times, the bus driver would forget especially during high volume times when there were so many people on the bus that you couldn't even get to the pay point. I do my best to try and pay each time and some drivers are very nice at times in which they will say it is ok to go without paying. As a former cashier, I made sure my drawer wasn't short or anything like that. I haven't really had any moments where I didn't pay what I had to at the time once I got older. I haven't not paid anything since I was about 15/16 years old.

If this will happen with me then I will definitely go to conductor to give him what he deserves. The conductor earned that fare and I cant deny him of his earnings. Similarly in the case of supermarket you got away with the item and as a result the money got deducted from the cashier's earnings. So in a way you have taken the earning of that person. But good thing is that you have now realised these things.

Hey Pomwango, I think this is a great question to ask, I have run into this before, and I use to see it as a blessing or something like that because most times when it happen to me I had over did myself at the store and didn't carry the amount of cash on me, so when I would get a free item off I would just take it but not realize I didn't pay for it to later once I looked over the receipt. I think that you said something great we do need to do what's right because if we want something we need to pay for it unless someone offers you a free gift and I have had this often.!!!:)

Even if the conductor didn't stop you to pay, you are expected to pay. When you walked off with that unpaid item from the supermaket, thats stealing. We are not talking about the cashier at burger king accidently giving you a couple pennies more than you should have got. This is coming down to being an honest person or not. If you knew that the cashier didn't ring up an item, you should have brought it to his/her attention. I am currently in the military. I am fighting for this great country of ours where everyone should have an equal right to succeed in this country. You are taking that away when you are stealing from others.

i will always pay a bill received. The question is if people wait foe a reminder that they have to pay the bill. or pay it first time. from personal experience, It's better to pay up front and not wait for reminders, as when time for reminders comes, also comes with it some interest payments and if still not paid, then it adds more interest and maybe even a collection agency that will make your credit ratings to go low. No one wants a crdit rating to be low, so best way is avoid getting to a collection agency and just pay whatever you owe.

I have a bill paying system here. Once a bill come sin , I put a big sticker with the due date on it. Then ever friday I put those weeks bills together to pay them on sundays, my day off here. So no one needs to ever ask me to pay a bill. Take care there.

I can't remember the exact situation where I thought and did the same, but I do know that after that I felt a whole lot of guilt so I stopped. And yes, after being exposed to the business world for a short time I found out a lot of stuff, and yes the same kind of penalties that you said.

Some time this kind of situation happens but why need to cheat someone. After all he also work for running his family. When he forgot to collect money, he has to pay from his own. By taking this little we are cheating ourselves. SO please all my Mylot friends try to pay even if someone forgot to collect from us.
