Looking for a permanent remedy to his outer ear infections

My husband has combination skin type, and most of the time, his face and ear area are so oily and dirt builds up around his pores. This leads to black heads and pimples. Recently, I pricked a black head at the outer area of his ear, and after a couple days it got swollen. We poured alcohol to it, after cleansing, and also applied Betadine disinfectant. He already took an antibiotic earlier tonight, and hoped it would help. He gets this once in awhile, and he doesn't want to go to a dermatologist to get proper medication, because oftentimes, he gets short term remedy thru those disinfectants and over the counter antibiotics. I'm a little concerned because this might lead to something more serious. Do you guys know another home remedy for this, which gives a stronger and better result?
